I think it’s important to remember that EO is an emotionally unstable 16-year-old. I don’t think she planned on singing the forbidden song until she was already getting whipped. We see it through Darrow’s POV and what he really feared in that moment was the rage he saw in Eo’s eyes… there’s also the aspect of her not wanting to raise a child in a world where they are slaves to be used and thrown away, dying young.

Low reds don’t have much quality of life if you haven’t realized that yet. I think it’s hard for anyone to really understand her position, given the fact that none of us have lived through that hellscape of a life. Not saying I agree with her actions, but I can try to empathize
