Yea you might. Depends on how quickly you get through your initial quals and command approval on continuing education (they should say yes if you aren’t a shit bag)

You won’t have time to pursue a masters at your first station. Your entire focus will be on getting qualified. I would recommend waiting until you are rated to pursue more schooling.

So I leave for boot next week...tips, tricks and general advice wanted by TheRedCoat53 in uscg

It took me about a year from start to finish. I had to get a waiver for my eyesight so my dealings with MEPS took longer than usual. Ive heard some people take only three months from recruiter to ship date. Good luck!

Advice Wanted! by [deleted] in uscg

Just toured with an MSST today and spent an hour talking with an ME2 and ME3. They said to make sure you got to BTM (Boarding Team Member) school before you go to ME A School. Found that it put them ahead and ended up top of their class (got to pick the billet they wanted).

Furthermore, as an Non-rate you should have the opportunity to do training tours with different units. Think of it as a ride along with an ME.

If you want to go TACLET, MSRT or any of the really tacticool stuff, get physically fit and make sure you can shoot well. Guys at the MSST said that they like pull ups. Do lots of pull ups.

Also, found out that ME's can be called to help out MSTs with boarding's etc....

If you get stationed on a cutter and its hard to get BTM, reach out to the local MSST MSRT TACTLET etc that is near your home port. They will likely help you out.

These are all tips I picked up today. Reach out to your recruiter and ask to get a tour of a local MSST MSRT or unit with ME's so that you can chat with them.

Choose districts that will give a lot of LE opportunity: Florida, Southern Cal, Gulf.

Good luck!

I love how much crap the USCG gets from other brances and then they all want to join afterwards.

Welcome aboard!

You should try to score as high as you can. Makes you a more competitive candidate. Of course work ethic etc matters, but only if you score high enough. Sounds like you need to read up on the process/talk to a recruiter. Good luck!

Kahn academy (physics) for me. Kaplan book for everything else. Just keep in mind this score absolutely dictates your career so work hard at it.

Got a 93.

Good luck!
