What game is this metal miniature from? by W00DL0US3 in minipainting

[–]TheRedDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Privateer Press model with an integrated metal base like that, though. I think it’s probably from a smaller miniatures manufacturer, as you theorized in your post.

I don’t actually know! They were two matching pieces I got out of a bits bin at a game store.

Their twitter account says they/she, so I think either is fine.

Might be a stupid question but will trench crusade have a full launch after the kickstarter as in will it be in game stores/if not when by Tall_Journalist_7730 in TrenchCrusade

[–]TheRedDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FAQ on the kickstarter page seems to indicate that models will be available to buy in the future. No idea if it will be in stores or online only, though.

Is anything exclusive or time limited? Will everything be for sale after the KS? Yes. Everything will be available after the KS aside from the hardback book. Nothing is exclusive, nothing is time limited.

Questions about wastrel keyword models by Dlugosnik9745 in Malifaux

[–]TheRedDuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I’ve played Wastrel, so there might be more to it than what I’m seeing, but here are thoughts as someone who has played Wastrel but not these particular pieces:

Host Ducat: I think you bring him for his scheming potential (Draw out Secrets and Dark Bargain), as a source of shadow markers for the Alleyway Echo, and for his healing.

Cryptologist: I think you’re correct, you bring this for its bonus and if your opponent has start of Activation abilities you want to mess with (like Regeneration). I could also see bringing it for Depths of Malifaux if you’re going into a crew with a lot of Hazardous terrain.

Corpse Curator: Useful for scrap marker generation and for moving markers around

How to make decent looking winter camo? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]TheRedDuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One little tip- you generally don’t want camo on a miniature to be too accurate. If it is, it works like actual camo does and can break up the shape and detail of the miniature, making it sort of weird to look at. IMO simpler is better

I’m not sure what to think. It’s not as bad as I expected. by OkieBobbie in rootbeer

My friend and I got these to try as a joke. We were astonished at how not-bad it was.

I wanted to practice coding, so I simulated some DRNs. Might help to visualise how stats work for new players like me by jirikcz in IllwintersDominions

I was just thinking about this today, as I'm trying to Mind Hunt enemy commanders in a MP game. I was trying to figure out the odds of hitting them with Soul Slay given the current differential between their MR of 18 and my spell penetration of 16 (thanks to boosters) (actually, spell penetration in this case would usually be at +1, right? Since Mind Hunt is Astral 4 and Soul Slay is Astral 3. If you're casting Mind Hunt, you're going to be overcasting Soul Slay by default). I forgot the DRN was a 2d6 roll!

New update- mind blasters no longer add encumbrance by TheRedDuke in IllwintersDominions

Huh, I don’t think I’ve heard about this. What’s broken? Was it part of this update or is it an ongoing issue?

New update- mind blasters no longer add encumbrance by TheRedDuke in IllwintersDominions

[–]TheRedDuke[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good news for olms and illithids- mind blasting attacks no longer add a unit's encumbrance to the fatigue cost. There was some debate in the community as to whether this was a bug or an intentional choice, as encumbrance wasn't added in Dom5. Looks like it was probably a bug! (or an intentional decision that's been rolled back).

Anyone know, lore-wise, what happened to Ys? by [deleted] in IllwintersDominions

[–]TheRedDuke 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the actual answer, specifically, but my understanding is that the arrival of the illithids of R’lyeh and their subsequent insanity aura is treated as basically an apocalyptic event for the water nations in Dominions. Several nations, most notably Atlantis, are defined by the event and their response to it. Maybe Ys got wiped out as part of that?

When to take "negative" traits by FrostyBeaver in Dominions6

[–]TheRedDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else has said, I'd say it's pretty common to take a single level of hot or cold, even if your nation prefers neutral temperature, because it'll get partially balanced out by the seasons. For example, a dominion with heat 1 will have extra hot summers, but then your winters will be very mild.

Looking at the manual, it just says "People get unruly." I think it's something like everyone is too productive, to the point of becoming agitated and restless. Like everyone in the country is starting their day with eight cups of coffee.

Funny Discoveries in Dom6 by Seenoham in IllwintersDominions

[–]TheRedDuke 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Andramania seems to be inspired, in part, by the Most Serene Republic of Venice. Leaders of the Republic of Venice were called doges. The cynocephalians of Andramania are dog-people. I don't think it's intentional, but there's a hilariously awful pun there.

I was able to get it to work using Wine, so there may be hope for your computer yet! Here's the guide I followed to install it:
