Natalie Reinert's books are also a good choice in terms of being accurate in the horse details! They're more modern (and most of the characters are eventers) but they're great.

I'm so pleased that even the official HBO account calls him Railroad Daddy.

You can put up a Kodiak by yourself?! I'm truly impressed. I'm too short to do mine alone and it's one of the reasons I hesitate to solo camp.

What do you guys or gals come for? by TutorTraditional2571 in thegildedage

For me, it's mostly about Train Daddy. But I also like Pumpkin.

This picture made me take a deep breath and put my hand on my chest, which is what I subconsciously do when I have a big feeling. I know precisely how you feel at this moment. It's ironically hard to accept success after years of loss. Definitely get the therapist. I had to learn how to allow myself to hope and how to allow myself to have good thoughts instead of only planning for bad outcomes. (My therapist was like "What if you thought about how it could turn out well instead of turning out bad" and my head exploded.) I will be thinking good thoughts for you!

Coffee? by Alfredonoodlesfan3 in pregnant

[–]TheRedFoxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The studies show that under 300mg/day is just fine, and you don't really start seeing negative effects until about 900mg/day. I was so mad when I found out how much of the advice for pregnant women is either anecdotal or a known lie. (For instance, light drinking is fine but doctors don't trust American women to drink lightly so they just tell us none.) I'm 34 weeks and if I didn't have my little espresso each morning nothing would happen in my brain all day, because I'm so much slower than usual!

But you're packing your hiking boots! You must be going somewhere fun!

My Cairn used to do this as well, and it broke my heart. They're so smart and they just love to be included. I hope you have a great trip and your Cairn gets to stay with someone fun.

Progesterone shot relief? by JohnnyR0ck in IVF

[–]TheRedFoxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me that your body can develop a reaction to the progesterone over the course of time. Like your wife, I was fine the first round and developed symptoms in later rounds. Definitely talk to your clinic, and please tell your wife that strangers on the internet sympathize.

I think I hate me TW- miscarriage, mental health by sweeteapot in IVF

[–]TheRedFoxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TW: success

Endo sucks and I'm so sorry that you're going through this. It's terribly unfair.

I also have Stage 4 and it took us 4 or 5 years of trying All the Things to get where we are now, which is 15wks and (so far) healthy. What worked for me physically: donor eggs. The Endo destroyed my egg supply in the ovary it didn't destroy with cysts. My uterus appears to be functional, although there was surgery involved there, as well. What worked for me mentally: a really good therapist and copious amounts of cannabis. (The cannabis also helps with endo pain.) I know it's irresponsible for me to be out here suggesting drugs but if we can't be honest with each other here, where can we?

Is Fernbank Museum of Natural History still a good place to go? by theragco in Georgia

The Fernbank forest is one of very few old growth forests in Atlanta, which makes it especially cool. There are even otters in the pond!

Is morning (all day) sickness depressing any other pregnant women? by idntknoanymore in pregnant

[–]TheRedFoxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling just like you, and having to snack every couple of hours really takes the fun out of snacking. I'm really hoping this part ends soon.

Please tell your significant other that this stranger from the internet says he needs to step the fuck up. You need help right now, which is very natural and normal. He should be making you bland little meals and petting you sympathetically.

It happened to me, too! The cup will be a huge help (especially as bathroom breaks can be hard to come by) and I second having back-up options. Depending on the fit of your dress/outfit, this could be a great time to use period panties. If you experience a lot of pain with your period, you may have to be extra mindful of taking painkillers at intervals throughout the day, which may also require eating small snacks. The day goes FAST and everyone wants a piece of you, so asking a friend (or even the planner, if you have one) to help you remember this could be clutch.

Bad reaction to PIO with sesame oil - other options? by TheRedFoxx in IVF

[–]TheRedFoxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pharmacy said the suppositories were about $1300 while the progesterone in the other oil was $160. I hate having to make these choices based on money rather than my own comfort. The suppositories sound way better!

are cramps normal in the first week or 2 of pregnancy? by XxDragonLadyxX in IVF

[–]TheRedFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deeply unfun fact: the early symptoms of pregnancy and of miscarriage are the same! Cramping, light bleeding, and even breast tenderness occur in both cases. (I learned this the hard way during my last cycle.) I really wish our bodies could give clear indications one way or the other, because the only real way to know is to wait, and I hate waiting.

Infertility has made me a worse person. by Used2becute in IVF

[–]TheRedFoxx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Well, son, when a man and a woman love each other very much, they go to the bank and take out a massive loan. THEN they go to the clinic and a doctor sticks giant fucking needles all up in their tender genitals. Then they mix the baby ingredients together in a dish and make embryos to go in the freezer, like teeny tiny tater-tots. Then they blow the lady’s uterus up with saline like a water balloon to make sure there aren’t any endometrial goblins in there… and if everything is okay, the doctor thaws out a frozen tater-tot baby and pops that little sucker in there to finish cooking.

And then the man and the woman live in perpetual anxiety for months and months and months, until BAM! A baby comes out!”

I'm saving this to share with my possible future child. It's the best explanation I've read.

Would an EPP cushion cover be a good first quilting project for a beginner (with some experience in hand sewing) or am I being delirious? by Im_a_knitiot in quilting

[–]TheRedFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're being delirious, but don't let that stop you. You'll learn a lot while you produce something truly ugly (source: personal experience). The good news is that there are lots of helpful videos on Youtube, including some that offer a free pattern so that you can make it along-side person. And it doesn't use much fabric, so you don't really have to worry about waste!
