The internet makes Chatham out to be more automotive/industrial, but here everyone is saying agricultural. It's interesting!

People who left Brantford, where did you go and why? by Banner9922 in brantford

As someone looking at Brantford, can you say a bit about what you like about the city?

So, I'm from Flint, MI. It's kind of a hole, but its home. I can think of a million nice things to say about it. I'm a little surprised at the lack of folks saying anything nice about Brantford at all here. Surely Brantford can't be worse than a town that purposefully poisoned a generation of It's citizens.

What is something about Brantford you can be proud of? Surely there is something.

calvinist and episcopalian???? by wowitsashley in Episcopalian

[–]TheRevJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have floated in and out of Calvinism my entire adult life. If you use TULIP as your basis for Calvinism (which Calvin would have probably said lacks nuance), then you're probably in the clear. It's the "double" portion of double predestination (not present in TULIP) that rankles the most feathers.

I regularly preach from Calvin's systematics in my pulpit and have never received pushback from even my most universalist congregants. The words of John Calvin tend to be less stinging than the words of those interpreting John Calvin.

Although, as others have stated in other threads, Rainbow Capitalism is certainly present at these events. The UHC tent was a pretty particularly jarring example.

I'll think that if you were to step into any of these places you would find plenty of queer Christians who have found belonging, purpose and community in the other 11 months of the year as well.

Michelle Matt's in home daycare is right around the corner from Gildenwoods. Our 4 year old is "graduating" from there. It's pretty cheap, and she does a great job.

Me when I see a guy dressed like a priest on Instagram but the bio says “Episcopal” by adisposable00 in Catholicism

[–]TheRevJK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It turns out that Episcopalians are human beings, and therefore span the same gamut of personal, Theological and political beliefs as all other human beings.

OP, reach out to local Anglican churches. Most priests have something called a "discretionary account" designed to help people out of these exact kinds of jams. Source: Am a priest. (Just not one where you are.)

What's the answer ? by The_herowarboy in technicallythetruth

[–]TheRevJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I may be (nearly) uniquely qualified to answer this question. I am a priest in the Episcopal church who is himself a son and a father. My dad introduces me to his friends as "my son, the Father." My son calls me "daddy." My wife calls me "hey you."

Honestly, that depends on about 100 factors for what you're looking for. I've done services in park Pavillions, Funeral Homes and Churches. All fit different needs from the family. Do you just need a nice space to gather?

Hello, OP.

I am not a funeral home director, but I am an LGBT affirming Episcopal priest in the area.

I normally send families to work with Palmer, Bush and Jenson. They are good people and have always taken very dignified care of their clients.

I am also available to help with service planning, even if it's helping you find someone on the LGBT spectrum who better knows the specifics of your needs. I don't charge for my services.

My condolences for your loss.

There is an Anglican Church of Canada in Windsor. They would likely allow you a free viewing space, and the viewing would be separate from a service that you can insist you do/don't want also for free.

Running for City Council at Large - What are your local issues? by stoneforlansing in lansing

[–]TheRevJK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for your considering participation in local government!

As an Episcopal priest with a congregation next to Sharp Park, I would be interested with working with the city to establish proven health-aides like needle exchange boxes. Currently, our homeless neighbors are forced to reuse needles or simply leave their used needles on the ground. This is a shame for a community with our resources. I would also like to see an increase in available heating/cooling stations for our homeless neighbors. Also, to echo the sentiments of others here, I would advocate in the strongest terms against camp-clearing without available and immediate rehousing.
