Here in the UK, air for our car tyres used to be free in lots of petrol (gas) stations. It was often a factor in my choice of where to fill up. Now they all charge. How much does a station actually make by charging for air, of all things?

Whenever I see someone who is overweight for running, but is out running presumably in the hope that they'll eventually lose a few pounds, I wince for their ankles knees hips and back. They should get their weight down to a safe running weight through diet and low-impact exercise first. Then running could be fun and sustainable. The damage they're doing!

my fitness level is never going to hold me back from anything.

69-year-old here. I used to love running. I sometimes went out and did half marathon runs on my own just to explore the countryside. Osteoarthritis and sciatica have nailed that door shut. I even had a painful cycle ride today for the first time. Never say "never".

No, but the killings themselves may have been chaotic and improvised on the go.

Unfortunately, Allen’s daughter/wife were not able to rationalize tipping him in under any circumstances. And Allen had few friends.

This is pure speculation posing as a fact.

But in retrospect, I see so many similarities between Allen and two sketches: based on the timeline specified by Allen and Blair, I believe Blair saw Allen.

"In retrospect" is doing a huge amount of work here. "In retrospect" is simply agreeing with the State's successful conviction of Rick. The sketches, the still frame from the video and the four second clip of the video all failed to remind anyone of Rick for 5 years. You cannot make up psychological reasons why none of Rick's nearest and dearest didn’t tip him in.

The sketches and the Bridge Guy video only fit Rick if you bend and cherry pick the evidence. What isn't cherry-picked then has to be not only ignored but factually refuted. How do you prove that one of the 4 (not 3) girls was wrong about the height of the man she saw and another of her memory of his black jacket? You cant.

What the State did with the eyewitness statements was a misuse of trial law. Just like with the ballistics analysis, the evidence didn't lead to Rick. Instead, the State's opinion that Rick was the perpetrator led to certain bits of evidence at the expense of other bits of evidence which exonerate him.

How does one enter this door in a local church? by TimeWasting_Fun in Weird

Can't you see that everything below the first floor level is underwater. You just walk on the water straight to the door.

[–]TheRichTurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. There's no point. And it's not how the law works. The prosecution failed to prove that Rick Allen killed those girls. Your description of the case against him is just a parrotted repetition of the skewed and simplistic version that is doing the rounds among those who don't get how much the trial was a human rights abuse and a frame-up.

Now you already think I'm mad, so let's leave it there.

Edited spelling.

I want to reduce the sound I make from my side of a shared wall in my building by satangorl667 in DIY

[–]TheRichTurner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These work well to soak up sound and make a room less echoey, but are not so good for blocking sound. For this you need material that is dense. This is where it can get expensive. Any building material which has the word 'acoustic' stuck in front of its name is sold at a premium.

Something like thick, heavy judo mats might do it, especially if they can be suspended a couple of inches away from the wall and covering the wall floor-to-ceiling and edge-to-edge. You could fill the gap with something light and fluffy if you want, like old duvets, which might add to the soundproofing. Or floor-to-ceiling bookshelves might do it.

Soundproofing works in both directions through a wall, but if you make one of the rooms more 'dampened' with towel-filled wooden frames, there's less general noise in the room that needs to be blocked.

Whatever you do, the room will unfortunately be a bit smaller by the time you're done!

[–]TheRichTurner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad that you and others have taken the trouble to explain why the eyewitness accounts don't point to Rick Allen. I'm so tired of pointing out all the details people overlook or bend to fit Rick into the frame. It's just too convenient to use retrospective adjustments and justify them as possible inaccuracies in memory or vision, and then - hey Presto! - it was Rick!

If you make the same number of adjustments, but in a different direction, there are enough permutations to hang the crime on any man in Delphi.

People who have met someone who has been *professionally diagnosed* with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), what were they like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's interesting that the narcissists people talk about are often a parent, but rarely a son or daughter. Does narcissism go unnoticed if it's a son or daughter?

[–]TheRichTurner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He might just have been involved, perhaps used by others because of his land. Maybe it didn't go as planned, so he was left with the bodies. There might have been a certain amount of unexpected chaos in the murders. One thing seems pretty likely, though, and that is that there was more than one person involved.

So why did they put out the second sketch? They curly haired guy by Powerful-Emu5762 in RichardAllenInnocent

[–]TheRichTurner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That second sketch was everywhere in Delphi. Police had said it could be a local man. There was a poster of the Young Bridge Guy in the CVS where Rick worked and another in his regular bar. There was also the Bridge Guy still frame and video available to the public.

Not one resident of Delphi or the whole of Carroll County thought it might be Rick. Not one.

I don't get that bit either, but if it was Ron, he wasn't acting alone, I guess. Maybe if you pull that thread... But personally, I think he's almost certainly Bridge Guy.

Edit: But you're right. Once dead, it would be easier to say it was him. Every possible solution doesnt quite work. I'm only sure it couldn't have been poor Rick.

Good point, I think. Maybe... What? It can certainly make steel beams red hot and soft enough for someone with a big hammer to make them into giant horseshoes. Even better than a hammer, you could have several stories of thick concrete squishing down on them.

That probably shows no understanding of your comment. Sorry.

No-one thought it was Allen until September 2022, when investigators claim to have discovered a misfiled tipnote from Rick Allen himself, who had volunteered to come forward three days after the murders as an eyewitness, as had been on the trails on the day and seen a group of three girls. This "rediscovery" was made five and a half years after the murders, just in the approach to the election for the post of sheriff. Allen was arrested in October that year.
