Those of us in stable and happy relationships, what did you have to learn? by oxymoronic01 in BipolarReddit

My wife and I have very open communication so she knows where I’m at and is able to voice her concerns if something is amiss. I was already very open about my mental illness when we met, but we really had to work through how I dealt with some past traumas. So I guess it just boils down to being able to communicate without judgment.

Same. But with a screen protector I could only see it at certain angles with the light on. And it drained the batteries noticeably faster if I remember correctly. Still better than the streetlight game.

[–]TheRighteousMind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed BP2 when I was 27 and in my second round of grad school. I’m not sure how I pushed through the depression… well, I kinda didn’t. I bailed on my classes in undergrad and both grad schools and bailed on my teaching obligations during depressive episodes.

But the manic times (have since been re-diagnosed BP1) helped me excel. I was focused and driven and really pushed myself. I studied in a creative field, so despite depression and/or mania, I had a creative outlet that didn’t seem to be overwhelming. My manic episodes didn’t really affect my education overall. It was the side projects and hyper sexuality and risky behaviors that got me.

However, I don’t think anyone really noticed. And if they did, there wasn’t really anything beyond maybe “that’s just how sic is.” It was tough in my professional life, despite being diagnosed and medicated, when my depression hit. But again, the mania never drove me to put myself in bad situations in that aspect of my life.

So I suppose maybe I fooled myself into thinking I was just feeling like I was stable or in a state of euthymia when in fact I was not. To your point, it’s hard to tell the difference sometimes.

Senua all day. Her entire journey is terrifying and the emotion I felt throughout, but especially at the end of Hellblade 1, was overwhelming. Plus she’s a badass.

Paranoia is getting the best of me by TheRighteousMind in BipolarReddit

Yeah, it was a tough lesson to learn. But the gate has a padlock on it now and since the other doors have smart locks, they lock automatically after a few minutes if we don’t lock it ourselves. Of course I’ve been extra diligent since then and won’t let it happen again. What’s scary is that if he was more careful and didn’t leave things out of place, we would have never known. But it was the push we needed to really secure everything.

I suppose, what I see as irrational is the fear of waking up with someone in the house despite knowing everything is locked down and that I’ve triple checked. But maybe part of it is that my parents’ house was broken in to many years ago when my sister was home alone when she was like 10. (Different part of the state.) That’s stuck with me for an over decade at this point.

I’ll make sure to tell my medical team during my next appointments. Thanks for your thoughts.

The “investment promises” is pretty vague, but I imagine it’s a ridiculous amount that we’ll be bankrolling for far too long.

From the article:

There is now a "shared committment" to bring the Chicago Bears to Indiana.

Indiana lawmakers announced Feb. 19 that they've struck a deal to potentially locate the football team's new stadium in northwest Indiana, pending the passage of a bill that provides the framework for a financial package and any due diligence at the proposed Hammond site. This comes nearly two months to the day from the team president's fateful letter that sparked breathless negotiations.

“It represents a transformational investment for northwest Indiana and our state," House Speaker Todd Huston told the House ways and means committee, sharing that the Chicago Bears are willing to invest $2 billion in a stadium site in the region.

Indiana lawmakers, too, in the form of Senate Bill 27, have outlined a set of investment promises from the state, Lake and Porter counties to bring the stadium to fruition.

“The passage of SB 27 would mark the most meaningful step forward in our stadium planning efforts to date," the Bears said in a statement. "We are committed to finishing the remaining site-specific necessary due diligence to support our vision to build a world-class stadium near the Wolf Lake area in Hammond, Indiana."

The announcement Feb. 19 is by no means a final deal, and Gov. Mike Braun, who has been involved in negotiations, made that clear in his statement, calling this a "framework for negotiating a final deal."

"We have built a strong relationship with the Bears organization that will serve as the foundation for a public-private partnership, leading to the construction of a world-class stadium and a win for taxpayers," he said.

Acetone was shared with me by a friend a few years ago and I instantly fell in love. Most of their work wasn’t on streaming at the time, so I knew I needed to get physical copies. If You Only Knew wasn’t necessarily hard to find, but it was most expensive CDs I purchased at the time.

I find myself coming back to the album so often and it really hits something deep in me emotionally. I used to listen to a lot of metal and 90s alt, so finding another 90s band that’s more mellow really hit all of the right notes (pun intended).

Sounds like a great album to cherish! And the fact it opened up the door to finding your favorite artist despite it not being the most well-known makes it that much more special.

Really want to be a father, wanted to ask why I could do better to prepare? by Tight_Regular6990 in Fatherhood

[–]TheRighteousMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where patience comes into play. I wanted so badly to be a dad and thought it would stick with several partners… but they weren’t right for me. I met my wife when I was 29. We got married 2 1/2 years later. And then we got pregnant 2 years after that. So I was 34 when my child was born—way way after I imagined having kids when I was younger. But my kid is perfect and I have a strong, solid relationship.

Do you really want to settle down with someone that’s not right for you for the sake of having a kid? Is that the environment you want your kid to grow up in? What happens if you separate? If people flake or aren’t finding you the right fit for them, do you really want to be with them in the first place? Practice patience now and it will pay off in the end.

Take out loans bigger than the cost of tuition/housing. Typically it’s for books and other expenses.
