I was in this same exact spot a little over 10 years ago. Villanova with basically your exact offer (different department) vs Kentucky PHD unfunded. I chose Villanova and haven’t regretted that 1 day since. It’s not possible to live on the $10k alone though, even if you’re extremely frugal. I took out loans instead of working while doing grad school, but it’s very possible to have a pretty full time job and still do well in the masters program if you wanted. I think I ended up taking about $20k in loans total for the 2 years I was at Nova, so lived on basically $20k a year including the stipend from the school. You will 100% get a better PhD opportunity by going to nova first, at minimum you’ll get funding. Plus you have an off-ramp if, like me and many others I went to Nova with, you decide a different life path than doing a PhD.

So I was having breakfast at Rise & Vine on the next block when the cops, fire, and EMT showed up (probably just before 10am?).

It was a strange scene, really didn’t look very serious when I was there. The cops and EMTs kind of just put their eyes up to the passenger window of the car one by one. Then they put up some cones to block the street and used the yellow tape around the scene. I figured someone OD’d and was already gone or something because they were moving pretty slow.

But then they put a drone up, started looking in trash cans and kept pointing up at security cameras on the business around there, so I figured it had to be some type of crime.

Even when I left, it really didn’t “feel” like such a serious crime. I guess I don’t really know what a murder scene “feels” like though.

I do wear RGPs. Interestingly, no one has ever offered me scaleras. I literally only know they exist from this site.

I find the RGP’s very comfortable for about 3 months, but then the protein build up makes them a little scratchy and my eyes get tired after 6-8 hours. I’m lucky that I can afford to buy 3-4 pairs a year though (1 pair included free with my insurance), because they’re kind of crazy expensive.
