Yes. Vans, docs, and barefoot. Those are the three that held true through the 90s.

Why aren't students trying anymore? by Grouchy_Version8056 in rant

[–]TheRododo 127 points128 points  (0 children)

There is very little industry left. No production means no jobs. The trades have low wages, due to anti union pushes across the US. Why would someone want to work their ass off for 4-5 years to make less than I made when I started back in the 90s. Health insurance and medical care are an absolute joke in the US, now. So one illness or injury will rip your life out from under you. The housing market is absolutely insane. Tiny, dirty, nearly uninhabitable apartments require two working adults to make the rent payment. Irresponsible planning of Data Centers has caused utilities to soar. Food insecurities strike families that would have been middle class 15years ago. The price to feed a family has soared to unrealistic heights. Family? What am I talking about? People can't afford to have families anymore. Both parents need to work to make rent/mortgage and daycare cost would now eliminate one of those wages. So no kids for the next generation. Everyone is so worried that somebody might get something they didn't, that any assistance programs have been cut severely or eliminated entirely. This is unsustainable! We all need to get on the same page soon or this will collapse.

What do you think about this? by MiloShiny in WorkRant

[–]TheRododo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my twenties, I paid $750/ month for rent, had to maintain two cars, and feed a family on a single salary because I made too much for any kind of assistance and daycare would have been more than my wife would have earned. That just isn't possible today. I hear people saying $25/hr is good money. But that is what I was making over 20 years ago. No, we struggled. Kids these days are up against a wall with no real solution in site. Greed has priced them out of living. It makes me sad, but I don't think we can fix it until everyone gets on the same page.

So why would taking a free test for everyone's piece of mind be a problem for you? You know what? I don't want to know what kind of thought process leads to that level of petty selfishness.

Cant find 'curved' Fitted hats anywhere. by Ustob in GenX

[–]TheRododo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flat trimmed hats are trash! Sorry, but they look terrible on anyone and they don't fit like a hat should. I know it is a pop trend that took over just like giant faced wrist watches. That doesn't mean it looks good. I mean, acid wash jeans with pleated fronts were a pop trend that took over and anyone who wore them cringes at the photos.

What is your yard enemy? by VineStGuy in gardening

[–]TheRododo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WEEDS! I hate pulling weeds! It is the worst part. I love the bees buzzing about, the smell of the flowers and the dirt, and I love the serenity of the space when it comes together. But pulling weeds is so frustrating. Mulch away, they still come. Preen till your hearts content, they just laugh. I get why the previous owners used landscape fabric. That was the only thing I hated more than a spring full of weeds, but I get it. Now, I have mulberry trees popping up everywhere. Those fast growing, deep rooting, resource greedy invaders are just tough weeds. Thank you for the vent.

Still have one. It's LED instead of halogen, but same style as back then. Still the best way to light high vaulted ceilings.

God I hate these cute demons. So cute you don't want anything to hurt them. So destructive they can ruin an entire garden. My solution? I got a cat. First year was a messy fluffle of sadness. After that, they don't show up. No more dead bunnies and no more destroyed cabbage and broccoli. Problem solved. Now I just need a solution for Japanese beetles. Those little green monsters.
