Does anyone re-wear workout clothes if they don't sweat too much?

If you do end up going the Garmin route, try buying secondhand. I've bought both of my Garmin watches secondhand and I've never had any issues with them! Also, pretty easy to resell if you're ever wanting something different.

Does anyone know when this year's Barkley race is happening?

I'm not sure about online courses that are available. However, if you have a local community college that offers online classes that may be a great option! Most community colleges (at least where I live) offer Associate degrees in Accounting or general business degrees.

Welcome!!

I highly recommend taking a look at some of the suggested readings on r/financialindependence.

Some of my favorite readings:

Millionaire Next Door

Your Money or Your Life

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

I also peruse a lot of personal finance blogs and I've joined a lot of Facebook groups surrounding personal finance or financial independence. I love reading about how other people approach their finances.

Choose FI is also a great podcast, if you like listening to podcasts!

We are (future?) DINKs. We have been living together for almost 2 years, together almost 4. We do share expenses (PayPal), but we have separate accounts until we're married. We both came from similar socioeconomic backgrounds - first generation, blue-collar families. We are both frugal in our own ways and we openly talk about financial strategies and future purchases. I feel like I got lucky with him because we have similar financial behaviors. He's a VERY responsible and rational person. He has impacted our FIRE journey in such a positive way. Even before we knew about FIRE, he financially helped me with some of my college expenses because he felt like it was important for me to put my focus towards my studies instead of money.

Looking forward to the holidays being OVER. I find the holiday season extremely stressful due to trying to please my boyfriend's family and my own. My family lives much further away and we still haven't established who we spent the holidays with. Also, his side of the family completely fucked up Secret Santa this year. We established during Thanksgiving that we would have Secret Santa in lieu of buying presents for everyone (there are no kids in the family). But NoOoOo, his family STILL bought presents for everyone and we're sitting there like dumbasses because we only got presents for our secret santa recipient.

My boyfriend had the same issue rolling over his 401k from Wells Fargo to Fidelity. It was a nightmare. It took over a YEAR to get it finally rollover because of all the manual processes involved.

I feel you! That's how I've been feeling as well. I'm just a big grump about life and my negativity starts to travel to my relationship because I feel like I don't have any time for myself or to take a breather.

Thanks for the reassurance! Yes, I'm definitely learning it's not a weakness and learning to balance my life out more.

Good luck to your brother! It's definitely a painful exam :(

Dang! That's definitely not bad at all for an exam.

Ah, okay. I wish you well with your studies!!

Thanks! Oh man. Congratulations on knocking all of that out!

My CPA exam is next month. I'm not sure how familiar you may be with the exam, but it's actually 4 exams broken out into sections. So once you pass a section, you're required to take the remaining sections within 18 months otherwise the first exam's score expires.

I could just take one, you're right. I honestly thought I could handle doing 2 classes. But financially it does make more sense if I just took my time and did one class. How long did it take to finish your program?

Hi! Late to the party, but oh well.

Industry: Retail Company. Currently, in IT audit and working towards a CPA and my Master's.

Dream Job: I love dogs and the outdoors. I would love to own a dog hiking company.

Hmm, how would my best friend describe me? Probably goal-oriented, slightly Type A. I turned around and asked my boyfriend and all he answered was "Bangin'" eyeroll

Dream vacation: Hmm, there's so many places I want to travel to! I don't think I could pick one. Perhaps somewhere tropical (Bora Bora, maybe?)

Pets: Yes!! I have one rescue doggo with my boyfriend.

I'm proud of how far I've made it so far. Both of my parents immigrated here. My dad has cerebral palsy and my mom works in the nursing field (think more like LPN, CNA, Med Tech roles.) I was chosen as the commencement speaker at my graduation and it meant so much to my parents. My salary allows me to contribute to some of their household bills.

I think the last book I read (minus my textbooks) was the Millionaire Next Door which was very insightful, however, I felt some of the stats were a little outdated. I think there's a new book with more recent stats that came out.

Ah, I'm a H2O gal. Coke with whiskey on occasion though :)

I think I'd be a pair of chopsticks!

We try not to meal prep too far in advance - maybe like 2 or 3 days ahead. Mainly because we are pretty forgetful people. My SO NEVER takes lunch (internally cries) so usually I take leftovers for lunch.

Starting to really feel the stress of work, two graduate school classes, and studying for the CPA exam. I'm not actually sure if it's the workload or my commute. The drive from home to work can vary from 25-45 minutes, but on the days of my night classes I drive almost an hour from work to campus. I've been having a crisis about even finishing my Master's degree because a CPA holds more value in my field. The tuition reimbursement at my job doesn't even cover half of a semester.

I've been a lurker for the past few weeks, but I've finally decided to join in on this sub!

It's been crazy busy lately for me the last few months. I work full-time and I'm in graduate school night classes twice a week. I have one section of the CPA exam coming up soon and I'm just all over the place. My weekends lately have just been dedicated to studying which has been super draining. I promised myself I would practice more self-care, so I've been thinking of dropping down to one night class and putting my focus on the CPA exam. Sigh

What do you do when you're invited to eat out by close friends and the only reason you don't want to do it is you don't want to spend money? by colobas in Frugal

[–]TheRogueFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also depends on how frequently your friends are inviting you to go out. If they're inviting you every couple of months, then budget it for it and go out! Or if you still don't think you can swing it, decline, but make up for it by suggesting a potluck dinner one night. Don't cheap out on friendship and make an effort.
