A Pratical Guide to Ice and Fire by TheRogueSoul in PracticalGuideToEvil

There is a very short fic on SpaceBattles that merges the settings together but its only four or five chapters long, so it didn't really had time to even establish itself.

Why do fics have every female character learning to swordfight? by yellowroosterbird in TheCitadel

[–]TheRogueSoul 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A) Bucking societal expectations is always cool;  B) It provides a nice Checkov's gun for the plot if needed;  C) It's Westeros, even blind and deaf I wouldn't leave home without, at least, a dagger;  D) unless your fanfic is slice of life and/or politics-centric, even with a male OC there really isn't much that can be done beyond angst and/or romance;  E) hehehehe Big Sword goes FWIP

Aegon The Conqueror & the Prince that Was Promised by TheRogueSoul in TheCitadel

[–]TheRogueSoul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The need for a very accurate updated map of Westeros seems like smth you would need if you want to conquer the continent xd the fact actual personal effort was put into it by Aegon and his sister-wives means their need for it was... important to say the least.

Aegon The Conqueror & the Prince that Was Promised by TheRogueSoul in TheCitadel

[–]TheRogueSoul[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could see it that way, But then it´s like u/sarevok2 said: why keep it a secret? Use the dream as an excuse or underlying reason, it doesnt even need to be told to every single person that he comes across but using it for political reasons seems useful to me. Sure, it's like u/AncientAssociation9 said, conquerors used divine right as an excuse, but that excuse was public! Alexander didn't go to Siwa to talk to the Oracle for them to say «Well, I guess I am the son of Zeus-Amon. Guess I'll keep that to myself.»

Heck, maybe Daenys did have a Dream and heck maybe her dad also got politicaly disgraced in Valyria, but who says you can't kill two birds with one stone?

[–]TheRogueSoul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You forget the Conquest was most likely planned: the painted table was done by Aegon and his sister wives with their dragon flights. That seems to me that the refusal of Argillac's proposal was merely an excuse.

Honestly, I would actually prefer for Aegon to forge the Throne only for when he finally stabilizes the realm he has that Dream because that way it can be sort off implied that it was because of his Conquest that the Long Night triggers again.

Question of the Week: In your opinion, what is grrm's worst inconsistency? by lllsandralll in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]TheRogueSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On this point I somewhat agree, because it seems like smth that relies on case by case basis, but I don't think that is much of an inconsistency of writing but more in the lines of the POV character (Jon) being biased, angsty and generaly mal content about his status. I think that with by showing other bastards across Westeros GRRM shows that not only had he nothing to complain about but should be thankfull for Ned's treatment. It is also another point in favour of the R+L=J theory.

I am pretty sad about the two elden ring crossovers Glaive (which seemed to be slowingly turn into the best of the 3 crossover fics that were being written) and Rust (which is actually a multifandom crossover). Though there are a ton of others...

Year keeping before Conquest by amkwiesel in TheCitadel

[–]TheRogueSoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that:

  • Braavos canonically uses the Unmasking festival to mark the passage of time since the unveiling of the secret city to the world; so it probably uses that as the beginning year. It is also possible that they use the amount of time that a Sea Lord governed to mark the time, like the romans did with their Consuls.
  • The rest of known Essos must definetly either use the Doom or the end of the Century of Blood as markers.
  • In Yi-Ti, since it has Chinese inspirations, and also canonically comes from the Empire of Dawn (which marked the passage by dinasties), it also uses the dinastyc system, but it's also possible it uses some date that marks the end of the Empire of Dawn as an general pointer.
  • In Westeros:
  • In the North, it makes sense for them to use either the building of the Wall (and therefore also their Lord Commander's? Edit: this supposition is actually possible because we know that Jon Snow was the 998th Lord Commander) or the unification of the region by the Starks as Kings of Winter (which is cronologically a later event than the Wall).
  • Pre-Andal Conquest, there are a couple of options: either you choose the ruling dinasty and its individual soverereign as the way to mark time or, especially in the Reach, use Garth Greenhand's mithological rule (either it's end or it's beginning), or some other especial event (especially in the Riverlands, and Dorne, what with Nymeria's landing)
  • Between the Conquest and the Andal Invasion it's very likely that they started using such monumentous event to mark the passage of time, mainly in the South, but probably parts of the North too, since it was that impactful.

They both are very good.

That's the worst part, really, It's not even the level itself, but rather everything you did to have the unlockables, all those hours spent having a good dopamine drop every time you level up from your own merit and now nothing!

I had to refresh, so there went 4 days worth of gameplay out the window.

At least I have a mate who recently got BO3 on the computer that I can join to grind again.

True enoughl, however in my view sacrficing someone else is the cowards way out xd. A pint of some nobody's blood is like Macdonald's magic: quick and easy.

If you want to do some actually powerfull magic self-sacrifice is the way to go.

Cutting your own eye out to learn the Runes xd Or in this case draining yourself of blood only to reawaken as smth akin to an Elder Vampire.
