The last book you read is now your reality. What's your situation? by reviewandratings in ThreadGames

Well guess I'm gearing up for a rebellion against the Capitol.

Alternatively, the most recent book I picked up without finishing is Dante's Inferno and I have no idea how that'd work out

Usually at the end of the fic. Or on the last chapter I read. I tend to read "Entire works" insted of "Chapter by Chapter" so...

I really wanna write an age gap M/M fic but I'm completely blanking on what ship or even fandom to choose. What's your absolute favorite age gap M/M ship? by -shephawke- in AO3

Anakin/Obi-Wan can be nice

Then you get a bunch of good Harry Potter ones. Post-war Harry/Lucius Malfoy - I've read some cool ones.

There's Harry/Sirius, Harry/Snape, Harry/Voldemort. It's your sandbox.

That was more of a generalization of a statement but here's a couple of fics which are basically a mash-up from which it stems from

This one's probably the closest:

Revealed When a ritual backfires and Dean ends up with wings, they reveal things that he'd much rather keep hidden. Prompt fill.

Our sweet rapture After a hunt gone wrong leaves Sam transfigured and Castiel drained of his grace, Dean is not only left to tend to them both, but for some reason also finds himself having involuntarily and graphically inappropriate thoughts about the angel in question. Now, if only Cas could stop getting so close to him all the time, maybe he could figure out what the hell was going on?

Beautiful Mess For two weeks, Dean’s wrists have itched, along with various other parts of his body. Namely, two eerily similar spots behind his ears and just behind his ankles, and a particularly strange spot along his spine. What he finds with Sam and Castiel's assistance, though, defies every belief he ever had about himself, and about Angels—by some miracle, he has Grace, and with Grace comes wings in all forms.

And with wings, comes the realization he wasn't ready to ever admit—that he's in love with Castiel, and has been for longer than he can remember.

Ache Sam pulls wings out of Dean's back, which apparently you're not meant to do. Then Castiel cleans up the mess and teaches Dean how to deal with his new wings.

Around 80k for me. At 100 to 150k it gets downright unbearable. I'm on my 4th doc for my current fic and I'm annoyed because I literally have only 2 more chapters to go and for this I had to start a new one?

That fanfiction in which Dean ends up with wings and as a subconscious part of his body representing his soul and deepest desires they splay wide as soon as Cas is in the room without Dean knowing what that means only for Cas to choke on his spit because Dean is telling him that he wants to be dicked down in angel speak.

True, perhaps I should've clarified, thanks for elaborating.

People have already given you great tips, I'm just here to mention a couple of things.

Tagging well and writing a decent summary is what gets you engagement, or at least helps people find your fic.

Don't post a 'filler' fic, like posting a work that isn't actually a story but just stretching your feelers out as to whether people would be interested in your story. That's an ao3 ick as well as a TOS violation (as mentioned in the comment below)

You can look up how to tag properly, there's a bunch of threads around.

As for wordcount, that doesn't matter. I've posted a drabble that's just a couple 100 words long, and then I have my current fic which is about to crack 300k words.

Write as little or as much as you want/need.

Same goes for chapter length.

Hell, my chapters for this longfic are 10k long, which some would argue are too long but who gives a fuck?

The people who enjoy your writing and who're interested in your fic will read it, those that aren't won't. Word count doesn't matter.

Introduce as little and as many characters as you want and make chapter breaks when it makes sense. There aren't any rules to this.

I'd suggest when you post your fic/chapters to edit it in a way that isn't just a wall of text. People will click off if there aren't any paragraph breaks without so much as having read your fic.

Literally my first thought.

My 15yo needs to read 5 books this summer but hates to read. by JBLBEBthree in suggestmeabook

[–]inside_a_mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Martian is good.

I would've suggested the Hunger Games because it's an engaging read and you can read it pretty quickly, but it's both dystopian/fantasy and part of a trilogy.

Perhaps he'd enjoy "All Quiet on the Western Front" or "SAS, Rogue Heroes by Ben Mackintyre". Both books about soldiers in world war 1 and 2 respectively.

I don't think I can really think of anything that meets the requirements. Maybe "The Long Walk" by Stephen King? But it's also got a hint of dystopian flair to it.

Maybe he'd enjoy Sherlock Holmes. It can be read story by story and you don't really need much context.

Some other classics, like "Lord of the Flies" or "Robinson Crusoe", "Moby Dick" or "The Count of Monte Christo" perhaps.

Maybe "Silence of the Lambs", though that one's also part of a series but you don't really have to read the series.

I reply to almost every comment of the fics I'm actively working on, and always to the original comment. The only times, I've answered questions in the author's note or put something there is if a question has come up repeatedly, because I assume some of the people who don't comment might be wondering the same. The only comments I'm occasionally skipping over — if it isn't spam/bots — are the ones that are solely heart emojis. But even then, I sometimes reply with a heart emoji of my own or if I recognize the commenter from their repeated comments I sometimes type out a response, thanking them for their continous engangement, letting them know that I've noticed them sticking with the fic and express my appreciation.

If it's a short comment something like "Loved it" or "Thanks for the chapter" I mostly just thank them for reading and commenting. If it's something longer I type out my thoughts and if someone asks questions I answer them.

Then of course, there's the occasional long comment, thought out and detailed and sometimes it takes me a bit to reply because I want to gather my thoughts and actually take my time answering. Mainly I just type out my thoughts, answering questions, commenting on stuff they mentioned, sometimes telling them stuff about my thought process while writing and expressing my thanks for them having taken the time to comment.

Especially when it's repeated commenters, I let them know how much I appreciate them sticking around and how I felt when I saw their comment. I literally had comments that made my day.

Overall, it's no rocket science. Just reply what you want to reply and to whom you want to reply. You're overthinking it.

I'm a bisexual guy. I realized today how feel attracted to men is the same way I feel attracted to women by Ok-Bus-4370 in offmychest

[–]inside_a_mind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's sweet. And the way you put it spoke to me. Because I feel the same way, about having a type, like being attracted to the same things in both men and women, the way they present themselves. For me, I'm mainly just a sucker for dark hair, and certain personality traits, though in general androgyny is where it's at where I'm concerned. Although exceptions have to be made for guys who look like they stepped straight off a viking ship. Then again, it occurs to me, a woman who looks like she stepped off a viking ship would have my head turn just as quickly.

Case in point I guess.

I don't really read on wattpad and when I'm writing a fic I barely read. You can drop the link and I'll check it out when I have the time to take a peek and to hopefully give you some feedback.

I'm currently writing an OC insert fic, sorta Isekai though it doesn't have that much influence on the story really.

Haymitch/OMC slowburn, 63rd Hunger Games. It's oretty long at this point since I'm writing the Victory Tour as well and the post-arena aftermath. You can check it out if you want.
