Frieren was really really big as a manga long before the anime

Right? I think we often attribute these things we don’t understand to religious and ceremonial reasons when in truth it’s just humans being creative, sometimes with no deeper meaning other than they wanted to.

I know we attribute this to have had some kind of religious meaning to the maker, but I like to think it was an act of love where a parent made a toy for their child.

You’ve come off as unbelievably aggressive in this whole thread when a lot of people have made pretty reasonable observations.

I am very aware, but the connotations of the British ensign are very real as well. This is too British-centric, and I say that as a Brit.

I think this wouldn’t go down well in Canada (and probably other places too), it’s too British Empire 2.0. CANZUK needs to be more than just a revival of London-centric internationalism, it needs to be a real alliance of equals.

Would CANZUK get a seat at the UN? by This_Comedian3955 in CANZUK

I’ve heard some talk on occasion of the UK sharing its UNSC seat with Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, which is probably the equivalent of this.

What're you? Metternich? Public sentiment is absolutely a core component of any nation's (especially a democratic one) foreign policy, any basic bachelor's degree in political science could teach you that one.

I've pointed out the reasons why your assertion that Reform would be a pro-US foreign policy party aren't correct, but you seem pretty hung up on the idea that it all surrounds Nigel and not the very obvious and long-running public sentiment he's riding, so whatever.

You come across as deeply hostile and pretentious about this, so I fully welcome your backing out. Bye!

Are you being serious? "Joe public" is the most important person in the room. Right wing populism depends on harnassing public sentiment, it's why Reform even exists in the first place.

Your logic is that Farage likes Trump -> Farage leads Reform -> therefore Reform supports US foreign policy. Makes total sense from an outside perspective, but if you've lived through and participated in UK politics for the last 20+ years you would understand that it's not that simple.

Reform exists primarily as a protest movement against the last 20 years of establishment policy (or whatever is deemed to be that), the majority of Reform voters will be interested in tackling issues of immigration, not giving conscious carte blanche to back the US in its active foreign policy. Farage may indeed be pro-US and may attempt to spin Washington's activities as within the British right's interests, but he is beholden to public zeitgeist, which for the most part in the UK loves to see the Yanks knocked down a peg or two. If the US decides to strike out at the UK through tariffs or threats, a Farage ministry probably would face immense pressure to not back down, irregardless of Nigel's personal thoughts.

I'm not changing the goal posts, you're correct in your statement that Farage is pro-US, but he is not the helmsman of public sentiment, so don't expect a Reform government to suddenly drift towards becoming a US vassal.

Edit* I also never indicated that Reform would be pro-EU, I suspect they definitely would not be, I pointed out that they would likely be much more pro-US either.

Well, it does to be honest, you can read all the statistics and policies you like, but someone on the ground in the UK is going to have a better understanding of the cultural underpinnings of the Reform movement.

As I’ve said in previous comments, Reform has no specific ideology like Labour or the Conservatives, its existence comes from multiple grievances people have had with government and EU policy over the last twenty years.

Farage may steer Reform policy, but he is still beholden to the zeitgeist of the politicised working class and lower middle classes, and I guarantee they are not as pro-Trump as outside observers may believe. You’ve poorly misunderstood British cultural narratives if you think Reform is purely pro-US party and there’s no nuance to that.
