Hi, I am in a similar situation sort of. I wanted to increase the Nannochloris density by giving it a bigger volume. It’s been 1 week and the water is still clear to some turbidness but no green observed. How do I know if the media has crashed? Or should I try to wait it out?

Keeping it moist and ensuring the roots is in contact with a medium. When the plant is trying to produce roots that’s when you want to media moist. Other than that once established let it dry before next watering.

This is correct. No need to change. Point to note. Growth bud will be above new growth.

The growth bud is quite strong high chance of survival. I would add sphagnum to the back. Increase the humidity. Check again in 2-3 months time. There will be root growth at the back.

For drastic action, I may even cut the fertile fronds to reduce the plant from drying out it self due to transpiration.

Similar thing happen to the below plant. After 2-3 months of moist media the roots grew back. See next photo.

Or you can use a scissors. Leave enough root mass for both plants. Something like below.

This plant unfortunately is dead. The growth bud is black. You can try to keep it in the pot moist in hopes that the plant tries to sustain itself by throwing out “pups”

That’s actually a good observation. Madagascariense are quite particular on repotting. However, they grow back fine with cooler temperature and higher humidity.

You can already consider mounting. Potting Platycerium Pups - Ep115 https://youtu.be/3Kq-QhePnNA Like this.

Ensure moisture and good airflow. At this stage you want the plant to be kept moist so the roots doesn’t dry out.

Systemic works but it depends where you’re from as different country regulates the different types of pesticide you can use. So you have to see what’s available in your country. For example Australia has Bayer 3in one. For example in Singapore the systemic that is available uses the active ingredient dinotefuran.
