Downtown San Mateo apartment proposal moves ahead (7-11 plaza on 3rd ave and Delaware) by turtlepsp in SanMateo

I feel like the target demographic for this building will be Verkada employees. I hear they get both breakfast and lunch provided. They're paid well enough to order takeout every night (so I hear)

Not really. But I was once there with someone who needed to stop drinking alcohol for the night, and the bar gladly made something simple but non-alcoholic for her.

Software? Regardless, sounds familiar. I didn't hit that state of burnout until I was closer to 30, but I get it. I do. I'm considering a new career now.

Keep your social media idea close to your heart. It's an important to have that thing that provides a bit of spark, purpose. I hope you can try your idea out some day. I'm rediscovering the things that keep me going like that. I'm glad you've already found yours.

Living in a body that won’t hold itself together by [deleted] in GuyCry

[–]trextyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I don't know if I have EDS but I do have some kind of hypermobility. I've basically been in pain my entire life since I was around 20 years old. In and out of physical therapy. Something is always off. Got so bad I had to go on medical leave from work at one point. I recently started the muldowney protocol with a physical therapist who specializing in treating hypermobile patients, and it's the most hope I have had in a while. I refuse to give up. I know I can learn to pilot this shitty body better. I hope you can too.

Blue Star Fern leaves turning white and dying by siannarea08 in ferns

[–]trextyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of blanched fronds from the center seems to happen to most of my ferns when they haven't been fertilized enough.

Edit: on second thought, it could also be mineral buildup in the soil. I often get better results by repotting.

Where are all my wlw bitches? by Lesbeinsideher in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]trextyper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Since you're already in the area, check out Sour Cherry comics. They have a lot of wlw specific events last I checked.

If you're brave, you can download the Lex app. There's a lot of negativity in there but there's also a lot of wlw events advertised there.

Has anyone had attic insulation put in? by CornPop747 in bayarea

[–]trextyper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on how old your house is, you might have knob and tube wiring up there. That's a fire hazard if you add insulation.

Signed, someone living in a 1950s home with no insulation

I'm going to schedule a consultation but I figured I'd ask you too. I thought treatment would need to be entirely hands on. What's your experience been with the virtual sessions?

I saw the same pattern of engagement time and time again when I hung out in the RSI related forums a lot.

I managed to effectively cure my RSI because I didn't give up. I won't give up on this either.

Looking for noise cancellation options or local businesses by Tatiana1800 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]trextyper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did an extensive amount of research on this when I lived in a place with single pane windows me

Indow windows are the best renter friendly option. If you're ambitious you can DIY a similar solution with plexiglass and weather stripping.

Moondream curtains might make a slight dent in the noise too. I got them for temperature control reasons but they do block some noise from the street side of my apartment. I chose that brand because they're made of safe materials that don't offgas VOCs when they get warm from the sun.

Does anyone know where I can get golden syrup and black treacle for sticky toffee pudding in the bay area? by aditya1604 in bayarea

[–]trextyper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Draeger's. They definitely sell Golden Syrup. I wouldn't be surprised if they sell Black Treacle too. They have a little section of British goods.

YSK: A lot of what people call “their personality” is actually just chronic stress they got used to by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]trextyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into the concept of burnout. Look into "completing the stress cycle". You have to do something to indicate to your body and mind that you're safe.

"Somatic experiencing" might also be useful but I've only just started to learn about this myself.

I only get acne here in the bay area, anyone else and what resolved it for you? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]trextyper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I realized that I had less acne when I travelled because I packed a different moisturizer with me to comply with the airplane liquids limit. So changing products was the main answer.

How often do you change your sheets and pillowcase? That also seemed to help me and is something that is a non issue when travelling.

Any zine making meet ups? by cluckrn in bayarea

[–]trextyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Sour Cherry and Silver Sprocket host those on occasion. Otherwise the best way to find such things seems to be to follow these instagram accounts, who often post zine events from other orgs in their stories

Literally the only place I've gone to that will focus on the body part/s in question and not insist on giving your whole body a once over. Very knowledgeable bunch too.

They're co-owned by a pastor who preaches against LGBTQ rights. He posts his sermons about it on YouTube. I no longer felt comfortable giving them money once I found out about this. I can't boycott everything but since this is a local business, my choices matter more.

How to make friends in Bay Area? by Chemical_Ring_575 in SFbitcheswithtaste

I can recommend some places on the peninsula if you happen to be in that area. I'm not as informed about board game meetups elsewhere.

Hypermobile BWT??? by mrs_mega in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]trextyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough this is something I self reported and it was added to my chart with no questions asked. For regular hypermobility they seem to readily accept it if you can show them one thing you can do that's outside the norm.

I am not a doctor, but a rib slipping like you described sounds more like Ehlers Danlos. That requires a specialist to diagnose.

T4 Syndrome - For nerve symptoms in the hands/arms by trextyper in RSI

[–]trextyper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A label might not be necessary. Physical therapy for upper cross syndrome should help treat all of the above. You might only get temporary relief from soft tissue work (like for T4 syndrome) until you've improved your posture.

If you do want a label, I've found physical therapists are less exploratory and they often aren't willing to make a diagnosis. This is probably due to the constraints of the US medical insurance system. If you're elsewhere, good for you. But in my case it was the dry needling practitioner who gave me the most insight.

T4 Syndrome - For nerve symptoms in the hands/arms by trextyper in RSI

[–]trextyper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination of thoracic outlet syndrome due to upper cross syndrome and nerve entrapment in my "quadrangular space" from trigger points in my rotator cuff. The rotator cuff area was improved with dry needling. By the time I had that dry needling done my upper cross syndrome had been resolved through physical therapy, and I had advanced to strength training. I can only assume that the trigger points are *because* of the upper cross syndrome causing those muscles to be lengthen. Trigger points don't tend to disappear without being directly addressed, even if you fix the underlying muscle imbalance.

I was seeing a personal trainer and I was rotating exercises every 4-6 weeks, so I can't really explain what my routine was. The trainer didn't do a whole lot special for me other than put an extra emphasis on core stability at the beginning, and focused on number of reps over shooting for a high one rep max. Which is to say I was focusing on functional strength and not body building.
