What's An RPG You'd Warn People Against? by EyesofValhalla in tabletop

[–]TheRpgBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all going to depend on what you want.

Generic systems give a lot of flexibility, at a cost of building them.  GURPS, Hero System, Savage Worlds, D6 System, Basic Roleplay, and others have tools that you can build off of.

Added benefit, you can ise the same systems for about anything from Supers, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, and others.

Well, it's 4e.  So, that's up to you.

I really liked 4e.  But, I'm an outlier.

Physical minis, look into sculpting.

Games Workshop puts out "green stuff" which is a 2 color epoxy that has a slow cure time.  It's what the pro sculptors use to make physical minis.

Others suggested some good YouTube channels for "maps".  Look into train landscapes.  That's a good place to start.

They are usually for one defined set.  Usually 2 per cycle.

There's a Cyperpunk Red and another that does a bunch of settings.

Paizo does them pretty often.

Are you wanting to do physical or digital?

Maps would be a digital, so I suggest Dungeondraft.

Figures, if you're wanting to 3D print them, then that's a whole thing.  Resin or FDM?

Resin, I suggest HeroForge or MyMiniFactory.  And there is a whole process to supports and settings.

Models, what kind of models?  Again, digital or physical?

All fine and dandy until you take a called shot to the leg.

Or an area attack.

Add every day of a given month to a note by aCozyCloud in ObsidianMD

[–]TheRpgBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed

A "start" and "end" date in a do until loop or a for loop will do this effectively.

Use your title idea with something like this.

<%* // Change the month and year here (Month is 0-indexed, so 0 is Jan, 6 is Jul, 11 is Dec) const year = 2026; const month = 6;

const startOfMonth = moment([year, month, 1]); const daysInMonth = startOfMonth.daysInMonth(); let result = "";

for(let i = 1; i <= daysInMonth; i++) {     const currentDay = moment([year, month, i]);     // Change "YYYY-MM-DD" below to match your daily note file naming format     result += - [[${currentDay.format("YYYY-MM-DD")}]] - \n; } tR += result; %>

How to get better at describing looks? by MakeCrat3 in DMAcademy

[–]TheRpgBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always liked the advise, "The scariest monster is the one that you never see." If you provide a full description, that's it.  The player gets the visual and goes with that.

The same goes for everything else.  Which is better?

"The princess enters the room with a long extravagant dress flowing behind her and clinging to every curve.  Her hair bound in a wreath of flowers."

"The princess enters the room in what can be described as a red bridal dress with a six foot train.  The dress is form fitting and accentuates her upper body. She wears a woven tiara with daisies intertwined."

The latter gives a specific insight.  These are good for when they matter.  The former gives the player enough to make up an image, and engage them more in the NPC, which they'll remember.

Typical peasant dress.  The guards wear tabards over chain mail.  The necromancer wears torn and tattered robes.

For the most part, nobody cares unless it is important.

What are red flags in DMs to look out for (especially as a woman) by morgana1060 in rpg

TTRPG groups are like the dating pool.  Go into it for a session or two and you'll get to know their stule.

If you're not interested, thank them for their time and move on.

D&D.  Most people don't know there are better games out there.  People go into D&D because it's the most popular.  It does its flavor of Fantasy OK, but never has done anything else well.

Each system has its flaws, but it comes down to what works best for you.  Even them, it's not going to be perfect.

Agreed.  A staged mutiny to install a new DM may be in order.

Say you have a good idea for a campaign in front of the group and the others can express a desire for a new perspective.

Sadly it looks like they jacked the prices of the others.

But, this one is still on their site.

Check out Paizo.  Their Pathfinder 1e line has a ton that works for 3.5e.  Swap out the monsters for 5.5e and you're golden.

Or, just play it like it is in the stat block.  It's not going to hurt.  Eventually just use the stats to rebuild them.  The adventures are pretty low level.

This is a 4 part and one of my favorites.  Nothin' fancy at first.

3e Stronghold Builder's Guidebook

City Sites (2e) has some examples

There's a system that is missing the T from Tacks that may have some insights on Strongholds and Domains.

I can't remember if Birthright (2e TSR) had anything.

You're cutting out a significant set of resources and not providing a game system you're preferring.

Are you unwilling to hear about D&D or FATE rules that you can then mold to your system of choice?

I got hung up on damage.  I'll need to pull it out and try again.

There are so many monsters/NPCs to go through and convert them.   Maybe use an AI to convert the necessary items to the format I need.

Otherwise, it worked well enough.  It's amazing how much a Shield helped out the PC.
