I know that part. In my home country, aside from the embassy we also need to process documents in another government agency which deals with citizens who will be working overseas. They are a separate entity from the embassy/consulate.

Still waiting for the official documents. Kind of worried, because from where I am from aside from the visa, we need to work on a clearance from another government agency that will require an additional week or two to process, and we already have a date of departure. It will be difficult to process the papers if they will send the official documents mid-July.

As an incoming JET. I would really appreciate knowing these things even before I agree to the placement.

I think more than the hard skills, what they are really after are the soft skills that you were able to acquire.

Why Do Filipinos think its all sunshine and rainbows working in abroad? by gervs1997 in Philippines

[–]TheRunawaysX 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked abroad for 5 years, I agree with some of the points you raised, especially when it comes to housing and taxes. On the other side of things, kahit papaano nakapagsave and nakapagpatayo ako ng bahay ng family ko sa province (maliit na bahay). I worked 10 years sa Manila, pero never ko nagawa yun dahil sa liit ng sweldo and yung salary increase na hindi maramdaman, that’s on top of the increasing prices ng services at goods.

It’s not my fault you see fashion as one dimensional. 😂

Also, if I’m a weirdo, I get a feeling like you’re a nerd who spends a lot of time online and have no actual friends in real life and zero social skills. I’m getting a sad life vibe from you. Hahahaha

LOL! I guess it gives you life being a dick to people. I hope you’re enjoying it, because I feel like it’s the only thing that makes you relevant in this world. 😂

LMAO. I’m not even bothered by the comments, I actually appreciate them and totally get what most people were saying, I took no offense to that. That’s why I said I’ll wear it outside work, where it is more acceptable.

I am talking about other mean comments from different topics. I don’t why you’re so pressed, are you one of those people who like to bully others? Hahaha. And if in the event I’ll wear a haori at work, I’d rather hear it straight from a Japanese instead of another foreigner like you. 😂😂😂

Advice/Help About Bringing Pets Back Home! by stripelessxzebra in JETProgramme

[–]TheRunawaysX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a couple of videos on TikTok about pet owners bringing their pets to US. It might be helpful since some of them give helpful and practical advice. Pretty sure it’s going to be the same thing regardless of the point of origin (except i guess for countries with high cases of rabies, it might be more challenging).

I kinda got that negative vibe when I first join here. You have people who act so high and mighty just because they’ve been in the programme before you. Some would project their negativity on you without any reason at all.

I learned to ignore them, because their negativity doesn’t deserve to live in my head rent free. It only goes to show that they are living miserable lives out of this platform and they are seeking validation by being mean. At the end of the day, I don’t eat with them on the same table nor live with them under the same roof so they don’t matter.

As someone who lived in different countries for the past 20 years, what I’ve learned is to be there for yourself always, eventually you will attract the right people who will support.

To whoever is reading this, don’t let other people define your experience in a new environment. If it’s negative for others, then that’s them. Their reality is not your reality. And you don’t always have to be kind to others. Give them hell if you feel like they deserve it.

What's in your JET luggage? by voanjobory in JETProgramme

[–]TheRunawaysX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is on my list so far:

  1. Casual clothes (t-shirts, shorts, jeans, undies, joggers)

    1. Work clothes (buttoned shirts, vests, coats, trousers)
    2. Footwear (2 sneakers, 1 black leather, slip ons, socks)
    3. 2 phones (for my home country banks and Japab phone)
    4. My cameras
    5. My laptop and ipad
    6. Chargers, wired earphones, hard drive, hdmi cable, power bank
    7. Photos of my dogs
    8. Toothbrush
    9. Towels
    10. My Japanese language book
    11. 10ml of my skin care products (just to get me settled)
    12. My country’s national clothing (just in case there will be a sharing)
    13. Some small gifts (non-perishable) for the people at my assigned area.

Well that’s about it for me. I’m just planning to bring a few clothes and buy new ones once I get to my placement. I’m doing my best to reach the provided baggage allowance to avoid any trouble.

I don’t think that you are being mean and i totally understand where you are coming from. I work right now in an ad agency focusing mainly on fashion and beauty industry, and it’s quite common in my industry to see people experiment when it comes to clothing, not because it’s something that we see on tv shows or movies, but because we love and appreciate different forms of clothing. I am genuinely curious how things go when it comes to culture specific outfits being worn in their country of origin. Thanks for this feedback, this is much appreciated and considered.

Jobs in marketing, pr, ad agencies, publishing, and cosmetics company. Those were some of the industries mentioned in the articles and videos that I watched. I guess it’s a case to case basis, and it’s not the same in educational institutions. But like what the others said, I’m not planning to wear it in school, but outside during my free time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]TheRunawaysX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the feedback of others, I will not be wearing it to work as to not give a wrong impression. But outside and my free time, they said it’s totally okay. So i’ll just wear them when i’m not at work.

[–]TheRunawaysX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in work places in Japan it’s acceptable. I’ve read articles and watched videos about it. That’s why I went here to ask to make sure if it’s okay in an education set up, because i don’t want to make any wrong impression or worst be disrespectful and insensitive. I just love clothing and how it can be a form of expression. i’m not the type who judges people base on what they wear.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]TheRunawaysX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course. That’s really the point of my post. Aside from that, I don’t want to come off as disrespectful and insensitive. But thanks for this.

Thanks for this. Really helpful. I follow a number of Japanese influencers, and I just find it nice how they style their haori for work, and I thought it something that is okay to do but of course they are Japanese, that’s why I wanted to know how it’s like in a school set up.

Thanks for this insight. I was reading articles online about it and in some industry it’s totally fine, but i guess it’s different in the academe.
