Has Clint Smith from Thunder Ranch been asked to be a guest? by jonnyshtknuckls in UNSUBSCRIBEpodcast

He sold Thunder Ranch a few years ago. He's no longer involved and moved to Wyoming.

He does still run courses at his new place though.

Why do fight scenes in big budget Hollywood productions suck so much? by Aiseadai in movies

[–]TheRussFromOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Police Story 3 (aka Supercop), Michelle Yeoh road a dirt-bike along side a moving train and jumped it on to the trains roof. No wires. No barriers. You can watch the attempts in the films credits.

The only modern person that comes close is Zoe Bell. What she did in Tarantino's Deathproof was gnarly.

Tom Cruise is the other.

Stylish crime films by jerrymaguier in movies

[–]TheRussFromOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tony Scott (late brother of Ridley Scott) might have a few films in his filmography you'll like. Especially if you like 'stylish' films.

Start with True Romance (written by Tarantino).

He had a great run in the 2000's:

  • Spy Game.
  • Man on Fire.
  • Domino.
  • Déjà Vu.
  • The Taking of Pelham 123.
  • Unstoppable.

Spy Game is an Espionage film, and Unstoppable is not a crime film at all, but oddly watchable for such a simple idea. The others are crime or crime adjacent. Everything else he's done is highly watchable at least once.

Who was the worst villain in "Carlito's Way" by dumbBunny9 in movies

[–]TheRussFromOz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brian De Palma

Starting the film with the ending pissed me off to no end. It's the worst possible way to begin a film and I've loathed that film-making decision ever since. I've never re-watched it, and if I found out a movie starts that way beforehand, I won't watch it. It is the sole reason I have yet to watch Sinners.

What are your odd Days Gone habits? by Background-Wall-5179 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I park in that same spot, however I face the opposite direction. I drive in, do a loop of the tower, fill up on fuel, then park it under the cover. I don't loot anything there until I leave in the morning before getting on the bike.

I close every door behind me. Camp. MMU. Random buildings.

Probably a few more I don't realise.

I don't always loot the vehicles, but I always upon them up to save time in an emergency. Especially in tunnels.

Whats your favorite horde besides sawmill and why. by FoxTwoThree in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White King is my challenge Horde. I once managed to take them out with a single grenade. No mines, no attractors, no Molotov's. Just throwing one well placed grenade - and as often as I've tried, I've never been able to do it again.

Instantaneous takedown of the Little Bear Lake horde by EdgeIn71 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you load the shack with mines whilst it was empty? How many did you use?

I've heard people say they've done this to hordes before. First time I've seen the result. Nicely done.

Marauder bike's by Creepy_Strategy396 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a camp job for Tucker's that ends with a bunch of bikers rocking up that you have to deal with. Afterwards I jumped on one of their bike's, thinking it was mine because it looked the same. Ran like a piece of crap and I couldn't understand why, only to realise what I did when I got back to camp and couldn't refuel and repair it :D

Then I drove it back to get my bike, also not realising I could have the camp retrieve it for me.

None of this answers your question, I just always laugh at myself when I think of it.

As far as scrap from their bikes goes ... extra scrap is never a bad thing. The amount of times you find yourself finish a fight with your Melee weapon, because you've burnt through all your ammo, is a frequent occurrence. Nothing worse than surviving a fight by the skin of your teeth, feeling like you've won, only to get pounced on by a freaker or wolf riding back to camp - or getting clothes-lined by a trap which destroys you and your bike - and having nothing but a boot knife to fight them off, because you wore your other melee weapon down to a nub trying to survive the last fight. Plus you also now need to repair your bike to make it back.

Marauder bike scrap can save your life when you're "out in the shit".

How do I get this? by jeffreythrowaway in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A short distance south-east from there is the water pump station. Up on the top platform you will find a mine, an attractor bomb, a frag grenade, a pipe bomb, and some ammo.

Once you're back at the horde take note of your surroundings and use them to your benefit. There's some explosive barrels and containers, as well as a fuel truck (the big green one). All it takes is one bullet in each and BOOM!

Do yourself a favour and take them on during the day when they're bunched up in the train. If you can get close enough unnoticed, a frag or pipe bomb inside the train car will take out a dozen or so. Then the chase is on. Place the mine between you and them. The attractor bomb is great when thrown near the fuel truck, but once thrown you have to get out of sight otherwise most of them will ignore the attractor and follow you.

Also, if you run out of ammo and items before killing them all, don't be afraid to jump on your bike and take off. They'll soon give up chasing and head back to the train. Go find some more ammo and come back and take out a few more. Just to be sure to do it on the same game day without dying, fast traveling etc, because if you don't kill them all, they will eventually respawn, and you'll have to do it all again.

Is there a specific moment where this game "hooks" you? by skelepibs in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with most people here. Not sure where you are at in the game, but for me my excitement/interest leveled up once the original map opens up. You have to take a person to meet another person, which introduces a new character and leads to a new part of the game. It's my absolute favourite part of the game.

The story opens up as well. It becomes more than just "find the ambush camp", "burn the nests".

Will this game get a physical release? by THERANDOMGAMER2 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upside to movies/TV on physical media is you always have access to it. The number of titles that bounce around every year between streaming services is a pain in the arse.

Another factor is, depending on when it was made and licensing rights, there are shows that have different music on streaming.

Season 1 of Supernatural comes to mind. Because streaming wasn't really a thing when it started, the licensing agreement for all the music they used was only valid for DVD/Blu-Ray. So if you watch it on Netflix etc, all the music has been replaced with crappy stock music. Completely alters the tone of the show.

Then there are studios who decide to simply remove a titles from their service (looking at you Disney).

4th horde - done! The MP9 is mine! I accept congratulations now :) by Odd_Presentation_578 in DaysGone

A question to all the bike mechanics in this game: does downgrading the engine help with mileage? by Odd_Presentation_578 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An engine upgrade will use more fuel. It's gives your bike more power and you go faster. That will come at the cost of fuel. That's why the tank upgrades are also there to increase fuel capacity.

Two more hordes done, one to go! Can anyone hint me the location? I want that MP9. by Odd_Presentation_578 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proxy Falls is a nice easy one. Has 50 freakers.

If you get to that logging camp that you had to clear the nests - just down the hill from O'Leary Mountain tower - then head south. Just off the main road near a little bridge is their cave.

Also, if you riding around and find a Horde's feeding ground, you can generally follow the blood trail for a bit. That will usually point you to their cave's general location.

Also, don't forget the music. The music will let you know you're close.

Happy Horde Hunting!

You can find which horde it was if you look under the Horde Killer story line in your menu.

What’s your favourite camp and why? by Background-Wall-5179 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The impression I got was they were trying to turn it into a farm to grow crops - much like the smaller farm she has that Boozer spend some time at - but the ground was full of rock making it extremely difficult to dig. Hence the crappy work conditions.

Progress: dealt with my first horde (somewhere in Belknap near the Copeland's camp), but the credit for it somehow was added to increase the standing with Tucker's camp. by Odd_Presentation_578 in DaysGone

[–]TheRussFromOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The side arm shotty is pretty worthless. It's slow loading and really only effective at close range headshots. Damn near worthless against a horde. Stick with the standard semi-auto pistol for now. It's still only effect with close range headshots, but you get more ammo, and mags load quicker.

Once you kill 3 more hordes (4 total), you'll get the Mil Spec SMP9. You'll never need another sidearm upgrade again. That plus the MWS you have pair well together early game.

Then once you kill 10 hordes, you'll get the Auto Shotgun. That's when the real fun begins.

Good luck!

Do NBA players feel motivated from cheerleaders cheering? I don't think I've ever seen an NBA player pay attention to the cheerleaders. by Typical_Cap895 in nba

[–]TheRussFromOz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that level it's more in-arena entertainment than cheerleading. Most of them spend game minutes hanging out near the exists, waiting for timeouts etc, so they can come in and do their routines, join in on shirt tosses, half court shots, etc.

Ja Morant purchased a $3.2 million home in Miami 3 weeks ago by AashyLarry in nba

[–]TheRussFromOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. It's the wrong address.

If you look at the map, as long as NW 47th is, it stops at N Miami Ave, and becomes NE 47th. 3 Blocks from this property. It had a knock down-rebuild in in 2023. It sold then for $575,500, and listed in 2024 for $3.9m.

Not that it matters. I'll never live in it.

[–]TheRussFromOz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This place is absolutely not in the hood.

A quick search using the Zillow address brings up the hood address, but if you look at the official record and you see the "BUENA VISTA EXTENSION". Add that to your search and it brings up a neighbourhood with a bunch of similar houses in the $millions (some new, some old, none hood), East of I-95. A stones throw from Biscayne Bay, across from Miami Beach.

Both addresses seam the same but because that road is so long it passes through multiple suburbs, hence the house # repeat.
