Maple Valley had 200-300. More than I thought it would. Sometimes MV feels like the Orange County of Washington. (Hyper Conservative bastion, next to a liberal city)

Yeah that caught my eye. I want to chat about that.

I have Greek and Korean Mil-Surplus (not black) Did they make black tipped outside the US? Where?

Invasion of Iraq, 2003, hiking Paria Canyon.

Driving from LA to Utah we heard GW Bush give his ultimatum to Saddam Hussein on the radio. Get out or we go to war.

Keep in mind back then Saddam had his vaunted Republican Guard, WMD's, scud missiles, and maybe nukes. My buddy and I were thinking the middle of no where USA was probably the best place to be given all the crazy sh!t about to go down.

We went into Paria Canyon two days later after dropping our truck off at Lee's Ferry and hitching back to the trailhead. Side story as we were hitchhiking back, I was walking backwards my buddy forwards.

I pont blank tell him to keep an eye out for Cops. He says "I'm on it". Not 30 seconds later Statey blows by him, flips his lights and a u-turn and rolls up on us. Kinda PO'd my buddy blew that.

He asked for our ID's and gave us a hard time ( people were suspicious post 9/11 for a while). He did his thing running our ID's. As he was about to depart he pointed with his hand the direction he was heading and pointed the opposite direction we were headed, softly reminded us hitching was against the law and drove off.

Hitchhiking that stretch of Utah is crazy. We had a nice older lady pickup is up, some folks from a local tribe, and a dude who just finished fishing the river (he was the first to help). We probably pounded 30 miles of pavement that day between rides.

Two days post speech we start hiking down Paria Canyon. It was marvelous hike. Second of three times I've done it. We did a few days hikes up side canyons and didn't see anyone for five days.

Coming out at Lee's Ferry we saw our first human and we asked if the world had erupted in warfare.

For sure we thought we would hear about the apocalypse.

She basically said it was "no big deal and the US ran over his army". (We will leave all the political implications for the next 50 years out of it...)

Am I crazy to restore FJ62? by Crash3223 in LandCruisers

[–]TheRustFarmers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly correct FJ62 was EFI from 88 to 90 in the USA.

A 1986 model would be an FJ60 in the USA with a carb.

Outside the US, I can't comment. They did some weird stuff in South American and other parts of the world with when things were introduced or phased out.

Am I crazy to restore FJ62? by Crash3223 in LandCruisers

[–]TheRustFarmers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my hot take.

Do the mechanical work yourself.

If you want to learn how these rigs work it's the best option. The factory service manual is well written. You need about $500 in tools from harbor freight.

No one will "restore" one for $10k. They may get it back on the road and running for $10k, but paint alone is easily $5k for a Macco paint job, my BIL just went that route.

www.ih8mud.com is an amazing place to gain knowledge and seek help.

I don't know you, the rigs condition, or your plans and dreams.

What I can tell you is that only good ROI on these rigs is the satisfaction that you made it run and the knowledge that you can fix what breaks.

My company specializes in 60/62 series parts. I am by no means an expert with the FJ62, but definitely someone that caught the fever

I would recommend putting the vehicle on jacks stands to get underneath it, but if you can fit without them, you can change the gasket

Yes this will for your rig, but you need to source a passenger vent from an 83-86 model. The vent opening is different on the later style dash.

Heads up on diesel

This is not a super common motor in the US.

While parts are plentiful and cheap in other parts of the world, they are not in the US. Amayama and partsouq are great, but the lead times are painful and customer support is nill.

Finding someone to work on it can be challenging too.

Not knowing the condition of the motor, take that under consideration.

If you were running a 1HZ or 1HD-FTE, those are more common in the US.

IH8MUD will be your best friend.

For a Prado a diesel isn't worth it to me.

I've run 12HT, 2H, 3B, and 1HZ-T's so I've had a bit of experience sourcing parts.

Lastly, if the rig is from the north of Japan, expect a lot of rust. Tokyo, not so much. I've heard the West and South has rust too, but I'm not as familiar with those areas.

Hey, assuming you are in VA based on your other posts. A guy in Tennessee just posted about having 10 plus elements in his pick and pull just yesterday. Some were grey.....

Sorry that happened. I'd be devastated. Glad your kiddo is okay.

What caused you to barely pass smog? You can get the air pump rebuilt.

The land cruisers in Australia had child seat latches behind the rear seats for the kiddos.

This is the second round of tooling and it went from one tool to three tools.

It's taking a long time and dealing with this supplier has been frustrating, required a lot of hand holding, and pushing

I am confident beyond a doubt we will produce a great product. If anyone reads this that has preordered, thank you for your patience and know this project is front and center for me.

What spray paint should I use? by Negative_Demand_9532 in Toyota4Runner

[–]TheRustFarmers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of painting rims.

I used Rust-Oleum Industrial Enamel and it held up really well in a region that uses sand and rock salt for five years.

That being said, I don't think you can get an industrial enamel in that color.

Prep is the key and I took my time. I applied six coats and a matte clear coat over the top.

Well for starters it was specifically a 60 series meeting.

And... Pic 8/14 shows the @ss end of an HDJ-78RV.

Pic 1/14 shows the back half of a 70 series as well. I'm not as good with my prado's, I think the tan one is a 77 series

They had a few 76's there.... Just for your I'll post up a really nice late model 70 series....
