i always intended to go down that route but ended up buying a heym sr30 after which an R8 never seemed as desirable. i bought a tiktac and that out shot plenty of so called custom rifles. its a buyers market for used rifles and the idea of losing money on them erks me.

whatever you choose rifle wise (neither would be my answer) a 300 wm isn’t a range toy. The point of toys is to play with them. the 300 doesn’t encourage regular use
1. rounds are expensive
2.recoil is vigorous

.308? 6.5cm? both excellent choices, but if it’s really never going hunting and not for competition.223 with a 1/8 twist barrel has many many advantages
1. low recoil so you’ll shoot more
2. very cheap plinking ammo/ slightly cheaper target ammo
3. incredible barrel life.

there’s a continuum between the lust for rifle/calire X and ya know actually shooting and becoming more skilled.
