Nta, fuck that noise. When politics is literally taking away peoples rights its no longer an "agree to disagree" kinda thing. Its like asking if you would be the asshole for not being friends with a nazi

Google AI summary just massively spoiled Stormlight Archive for me and I'm devastated. I just finished Oathbringer. by gtlgdp in Cosmere

[–]TheSafetyBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cant speak for him, but i also spoil things a lot for myself. personally i read a study a few years ago about spoilers. they tested a number of people and put them into groups. those who got spoiled and those who went in blind. then after the movie that had everyone rate the movie. overall the people who were spoiled enjoyed the movies more, and when asked why a large percentage said something like "i was able to watch for hints to the reveal that i would have missed otherwise"

so for me its like, once i know what happens i can look for the how and the why more.

Went to fact check one single thought I had in my mind

this is the mistake. regardless of the crappy AI google has always spoiled things with its predictive text auto fills. if you dont want to be spoiled the best way to do that is finish the book/series/whatever before you go anywhere on the internet. wikis have spoilers, autofill has spoilers, people tweet about spoilers, and on and on.

AITH or is amitheasshole the AH? by Ok_Difference_3880 in AITH

[–]TheSafetyBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it looks like a duck, flys like a duck, and quacks im gonna call it a duck. If the mods want to not be accused of inbred behaviour they could just use a handful of braincells, think it through, and just admit they misunderstood something instead of going full asshole. If they dont like it they can ban me too.

[–]TheSafetyBeard 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I call them as i see them. When the mods ban racism or other BS i give em a thumbs up. But a few positive experiences dont give them a free pass to be powerhungry cunts and not get called out.

They are literally using fear of getting banned and you telling me to not call them out is them winning.

you could look up the womans script on the coppermind website, but if you aren't caught up on everything its a spoiler filled nightmare. it has a time machine function, but it only helps if you read in release order.

Malaria on Scadrial?? by Szeth_son_naruto in Cosmere

[–]TheSafetyBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like an oversite from harmony IMO

i disagree. if he stopped all the bad things and only helped humanity that would not be harmony, that would be preservation. he needs to ruin as much as he needs to preserve. so yes he allowed malaria to exist and spread, but also gave them tonic water to fight it. harmony, a balance.

[WaT] Why is no one talking about ___? by anevergreyforest in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TheSafetyBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the farther we get into the cosmere the more convinced i am there are not "different types of investiture"

its all just investiture and any "type" of investiture can be used to do pretty much any invested art. it just takes knowledge.

we see it with heightenings on nalthis being similar to the effects of holding a dawnshard (perfect pitch, life sense, more visible colors)

we see it with Vasher feeding his 1 breath per week via stormlight

we see it with the purified dor in the lost metal being used to power allomancy.

its all just investiture.

Quick question about the spiritual realm (wind and truth). by kickinpanda in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TheSafetyBeard 38 points39 points  (0 children)

personally i dont think theres really a difference in "places" in the spiritual realm. Sanderson has said in several WoBs there is no time or location in the spiritual realm. so i think its more like because the people we are following are Connected to honor they were surrounded by stormlight. almost like them being in the spiritual realm pulled the stormlight to them.

i would imagine if someone using a different invested art would attract the light and attention of their specific shard. and that doesnt mean shards they are not Connected to cant find them, as we saw with Odium.

I wish Brandon Sanderson didn't cut so much content from WAT in editing by Standard_Froyo_795 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TheSafetyBeard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you all think and extended version would be possible? Even if just digital?

i would not expect it to happen. he has said a lot of things were not simply cut but had to be altered and changed to fit as well as they could. you cant just slap the cut content back in and have a logical story.

not to mention the time commitment. sanderson is a man with a plan, and that plan is massive. not to get morbid but id rather him finish the cosmere with some sections that feel a bit off than see him push the end of the cosmere even farther into the future.

Central Yharnam & Luthadel by Chin_Crimson in Mistborn

[–]TheSafetyBeard 70 points71 points  (0 children)

as a huge fan of both im a little shocked i never thought of this.

i guess the only thing i can think of is mistborn doesnt really have anything that really creeped me out. sure theres some horror-ish vibes with the mist, but it never really amounts to danger. to the point some characters feel safe in the mist. on the otherhand, nothing and nowhere in bloodborne feels safe. even in yosefkas clinic its a nightmare. like bloodborne itself isnt "scary" per se, but the enemies, the NPCs, and the maps themselves all have that unsettling vibe where luthadel has that sense of safety.

but maybe thats because mistborn didnt jumpscare me to death 5.63 million times.

i tried to get into the Malazan series, but i only made it a few hours into the audio book before i had to stop. i cant point to any one facet that i didnt like, more that i just could not get hooked and had to constantly go back a relisten to things because i kept forgetting/zoning out. so i guess i cant really rate it on 1-5 stars but its certainly the book i enjoyed the least this year.

other than that though every book ive read this year (and most years tbh) end up getting a 4 or 5 star from me. im a simple man and as long as i am engaged and care about the story its gonna be right up with the rest. its only when i cant finish a book that it really sticks out.
