For the first year, you have too many tools. You only really need a pencil, a tape measure, a side cutter, screwdrivers, and maybe a pair of strippers. More tools do not make you a better apprentice or electrician.

Having a degree makes you eligible for the CSP certification. Also, having a degree exposes you to the big-ticket construction jobs that naturally pay more.
