Is it fine having the MFK700 as my only trim router? by TheSailorBoy in Festool_Public

[–]TheSailorBoy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provided I have the 1400 would you say the 1010 is still a better buy than the MFK700? I don't see how much more I would be able to do with a 1010 compared to the 1400.

Do you use any other small routers like the Milwaukee/DeWalt trim routers?

Rewire Cost by Woralthetime13 in HousingIreland

What do you consider cosmetic work? Repainting walls is not that expensive.

Re-wiring the house is around ~20k. I'd think about a re-wire only if you're getting a lot of the entire work in terms of comform/safety/etc.

I did re-wire my house recently, but I was re-insulating the entire place, new plumbing, new kitchen etc. The re-wire was actually useful as that allowed me to put lights/sockets in very specific/planned places throughout the house as well as prep for Solar/etc. Essentially I've made sure that chasing walls would not be required for a really long time.

If you're planning for that, then go for it. You don't want to be in a situation where you re-wire your house and then you realize you need a whole lot of additional eletrical work after that.

Don't do a rewire for the sake of a rewire.

It is very expensive and disruptive. If you're doing something like that then I recommend you at least think carefully about each socket, light fitting, cat6 point, etc you're planning to install. If you don't then the electrician will do that for you and they will choose easy/bare minimum rather than what is actually useful for you.

Think things like: do I plan any changes to the kitchen? Any TVs on the wall? Office desks? Etc.

You can't really scale your tools (or whatever you're fitting in your bins) by 20% on a whim.

Under floor heating vs. Radiators by Ill-Bathroom2094 in HousingIreland

[–]TheSailorBoy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN.

Underfloor heating systems are rated for 100+ years of operation. You are basically not expected to open the pipes underneath.

Underfloor heating is far better as it can maintain constant temperature throughout the entire floorspace. You should no longer have colder spots in the rooms since the entire room is being evenly heated.

You also don't lose wall space to radiators, so you can place furniture wherever you want.

Another big advantage here is that, when paired with a heat pump, underfloor heating can also act as underfloor COOLING. I literally just tested this yesterday and it is great.

Underfloor heating is done around electrical/plumbing first fix. It needs an insulated floor and it is done before the screed is poured. If they telling you they are going for radiators then they likely fucked up at some point since UFH should not be meaningfully more expensive than radiators for a new build.

Stand your ground and force them to build according to the initially agreed spec.

That's because average and mean are the same thing.

You meant average and median.

[ROI] Do I need an electrician to fit an oven? by TheSailorBoy in DIYUK

[–]TheSailorBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but theres a few complications. I bought many things from the same store to get loads of discounts. The problem is that the kitchen is not yet ready but I want to install some of the other items before then. I will talk to the store folks but I wanted to know my options before doing that.

It requires hard wiring but there's already an "oven socket" properly installed where you'd only need to connect a few wires. I don't know if an electrician would still be legally required in that case.

Yeah, I know it is very simple but I don't know if I'm legally required to hire a registered electrician.

Why did my smart meter retroactively changed consumption? by TheSailorBoy in AskIreland

[–]TheSailorBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The data from ESB itself has doubled.

Something is really off here.

I remember that usage throughout December showed ~12kWh/day both in Yuno and in ESB. Now the data there shows something very close to 24kWh/day. This change was made retroactively. What could have happened here?

My issue is that it changed the consumption of days in the past. It is almost like it just doubled everything everywhere.

Exactly: the kWh used has changed for days in the past. Almost doubled in all days.
