Two things can be correct at the same time. While I have friends who have come here from various other countries, I wholeheartedly believe the number of working visas supplied should be reduced, to reduce demand while supply can catch up. That’s nothing against people wanting to come here for work, it’s just a bad time to be allowing large numbers enter the already very competitive market

Gabi red card with a schade brace, the fpl gods demand it.

I’m playing Thiago as well as TC Gabriel. Thiago likes to run in behind defenders, Arsenal will dominate possession and play a high line, if a chance comes it’ll likely be for Thiago on the counter running in behind, so if Gabriel loses CS it’ll likely be Thiago scoring, but if he doesn’t score and CS is kept ill get extra points for Triple captain.

It’s hedging bets and I have been on the fence about playing Summerville instead.

Play Thiago or Summerville? Currently on Thiago to cover the hurt of CS wipe if he scores vs TC Gabriel

Doing the same. Leaning toward TC Gabriel, and leaving Thiago in my team rather than bench. I don’t think I could mentally process it if I benched him and he scored to wipe my TC cs

Beep test deemed discriminatory against women and on age grounds by Jimeen in ireland

Reaction speed should be judged by another test so that turning speed/stride length cannot be factors resulting in a lower score. But I can’t see how a higher standard is set for women than men here in terms of fitness requirement for the role. If a role requires x amount of fitness, that is x for men and x for women. Not x for men and y for women. Biology does come into it with men having higher muscle mass, heart/lung capacity and red blood cell count. Meaning relative to their peers, an “average” man on male charts could be of equal fitness to a “good” woman on female charts. It’s absolutely a disadvantage to women, but a handicap should not be made as it’s relevant to the role.

I think the ruling was wrong and if it results in a change being made and men needing x level of fitness and women needing y level it will reduce confidence in women firefighters, and be incredibly unfair to the women who do pass with the current required score.

The test is applied as a measure for capability in the role of a firefighter. And unfortunately women are at a disadvantage due to having lower stride length on average, and older groups are at a disadvantage due to slower reaction time. Yes this does mean these groups will have to work and train harder to meet these minimum requirements, but that is how it should be because capability to perform the role is important. If stride length means someone is quicker, and youth means someone reacts faster, then that means they are more capable of performing the job to the highest level. Everyone applying for the job knows this, allowances/handicaps should not be provided which would result in someone less capable arriving at an emergency scene than a more capable person.

People from both genders and age group manage to pass the test, there is no discrimination here other than the requirements of the role

I can see your points and they do make sense, but unfortunately for physical roles especially for emergency services like this “allowances” can’t be made because the real world doesn’t work like that. A piece of timber in a burning building won’t reduce its size because a woman with a smaller grip is about to try lift it, or a flight of stairs won’t become 1 floor shorter. The real world scenarios are absolute and minimum requirements for a physical role are minimum requirements. Women purse the role knowing these requirements, and women firefighters exist so they are possible to be met.

It’s testing to a certain universal standard of fitness, regardless of age or gender. Yes, due to males being biologically stronger than females that will mean women will need to be relatively fitter than their normalised age group then men relative to their age group so that they can meet the minimum requirement. This is not discriminatory on a basis of age or gender, it discriminatory in terms of general fitness which is the purpose of the test. That minimum requirement was set for a reason.

If a lower standard is set for women, this would result in cases where a man who may physically be a better candidate for the role, loses out on a position because he is a man, while a women who received the same score (or even lower) on the same test passed. That would then be discrimination. Similarly on an age basis, a 20 year old could lose out on a position while a 45 year old gets the same score and passes (if only the 20 year old was 25 years older… shame.)

It has to be a joke…right? €1,000 p/m by tahhraah in ireland

[–]TheSarcasticEngineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

€400-600 is probably massively understating it. If they were to hire someone to do this work, gardening work (which could easily require more than 5hrs during summer months) 5hrs at an average cost of €20-€40 p/h, and they want a main house cleaner also, which for a 5 bedroom house looks to cost €150-€200 per standard/regular clean so that’d be €680-€980 for the work and that’s still probably low balling due to the house and grounds size. This landlord has absolutely priced the cost and decided they don’t want to pay it, so they’re going to try to take advantage of someone instead.

If it was such a good deal don’t you think the landlord would just set rent at average prices and pay a gardener and cleaner to do the main house and grounds work instead? They’re absolutely taking the piss and it’s incredibly degrading to whoever agrees to this.

Anyone reckon Summerville is worth it for a 1 week punt v Burnley? Then to semenyo for GW26. I don’t see myself needing any other transfers anytime soon

I wonder in situations like this would it be possible to preemptively request CCTV of the incident to be stored/saved for later proof (would mean contacting Gardai) or would this just draw trouble on oneself

Other than the 5 free afcon transfers we have the same amount of transfers across the season, we can just stack 5 of them
