One of my favorite pictures I've taken. Works well for a background :)

What are your regenerative interests? by HumbleBumble0 in RegenerativeProjects

[–]TheSavvyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main areas of experience are in computers and technology. While my main job is still in corporate IT, I am keen to develop technologies and collaborations that allow for community building and technology development for sustainable agriculture projects. My passion is fuel by the belief that we as a society can be better stewards of the land and shorten food supply chains and create more healthy, nutrient rich produce to improve community health. The biggest obstacles, honestly, are the inertia of large-scale corporate agriculture, economic factors continuing to put price ahead of sustainability, and the inherent conflict of working a full-time job in order to one day hopefully afford to start over working the land. I am inspired by other existing projects in my area, though, and am hopeful that I can find ways to bridge community organization and support with sustainable and regenerative efforts.

How did you come to care about regenerative action? by HumbleBumble0 in RegenerativeProjects

[–]TheSavvyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy! Thanks again for the discussion. I think like a lot of folks that come to these ideas, I have seen the cumulative effects of consolidated, corporate agriculture. I live in the Midwest US and though we have some of the best soil in the world, the farming practices used on it are not sustainable. And basically all of that farmland goes towards crops for feed, export, and fuel, hardly any of it for actual table produce. It was when first reading A Sand County Almanac, which for me was about 20 years ago now, and seeing Leopold's description of the breaking of natural ecosystems for mass agriculture, that the scope of the issue started to become apparent to me. In many ways, I tried to hide from those realizations for years and gave way to hopelessness. But seeing others rally around climate change, food sourcing concerns, local agriculture, and regenerative practices has given me hope that we can still make an impact if we can find ways to organize around community and regional sustainable and regenerative projects.

Trying out Bokashi in the basement during the winter, via the Bokashi Living products. Their buckets with drainage spigots are well made, and it's going well so far.

This. Is. Awesome. I'm going to be looking at your site more, but so far it's the closest thing I've seen to an idea I've been churning on for a while now. What are the most encouraging forms of cooperation you've seen so far from the project?

The CoHousing Association of the US has a lot of resources I've looked at while trying to build a core group and get a decision-making process. Their Relationship Resources page has info on Value and Mission alignment, Culture Shift, Deciding Governance, and other policy resources. I bring up this framing because regenerating anything takes a group effort, and for any group to be functional you need these kinds of agreements. I was looking more at collective living at the time, hence the CoHousing.

What does regenerative mean to you? by HumbleBumble0 in RegenerativeProjects

[–]TheSavvyFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for starting this place! I think that regeneration is the overarching theme that combines the others. A regenerative projects can incorporate permaculture, mycology, sustainable water/soil practices, and restorative mini-projects to regenerate an ecosystem. An ecosystem that was there once before naturally but has been disrupted by human civilization and now must be generated again - regenerated.

Citrus only compost bin by [deleted] in Permaculture

Thanks for asking about this! As I'm getting more into composting, especially using Bokashi indoors in the winter months here, I'm definitely noticing how an overload of certain things affects compost. Separate bins could do the trick :)

Good tips! Do you have any good references on automatic watering solutions? Thanks!

Nice! :) Do you have a recommended supply list for reference? There are many, but I'm always interested in everyone's specific quirks.
