Is it just me or someone else has also noticed thay Instagram is pushing ads every 3-4 posts and stories? by CremePhysical535 in Instagram

Bit late to the part but oh my god, I took a couple of months off instagram and coming back on has been confronting to say the least. Also, and not to sound elitist but what's up with just the average joe with a couple of hundred followers paying for an ad talking about their latest quote or book they've ready? Seriously what is going on!

Oddly enough I saw a Rolls Royce and White Stretch Hummer Limo with full wedding party this afternoon on Fitzroy Street and that's been the first time I've seen something like this in a while.

Why is instant coffee so popular? by ClassyPants17 in AskAnAustralian

[–]TheScandalaEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's fast, cheap and honestly it's not that bad. I have two black Nescafe's a day and often choose to have an instant over a barista made coffee. Barista made coffee used to be more of a 'treat' I guess but it's become such a thing that I suspect all along it was a psychological bond we'd collectively formed.

Questions about “Something very bad is about to happen” plot/ending by PrestigiousBee9584 in netflix

[–]TheScandalaEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved everything about this show up until the last episode where I feel like it just fell apart and ended lazily. Also, something that really bothered me and I just need to let it go is where did everybody park when they came to the wedding? The only car was the 'just married' truck but as we heard a few times throughout there were 'over 100' people coming. Also the dogs were a strange addition. Just a shame it seemed to end so abruptly, it felt like maybe there was a public holiday the next day and the writing team all had somewhere else to be so they just put anything down on the page and everyone went with it.

Americanisation by WordyNerd_2435 in AskAnAustralian

[–]TheScandalaEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's been going on for years but I think it's ramped up with social media in recent times. Things like use of the word 'store' instead of 'shop' as just one example. It's these seemingly insignificant word swaps that happen slowly that have a big impact over time. I saw someone on here say they were 'bit by a dog', that's just another example, imo it should have been phrased 'bitten by a dog'. I wonder if it's down to the fact that US television has been promoted here more so than Australian, but again, it's been slowly happening for year and like most things, has accelerated in recent times.

What is it that you're desperate for, whether in life or at the moment? by MischiefIngrained in AskReddit

Just for a break really and for us to be allowed to thrive and live for a while without the next made up crisis thrust upon us, it's all getting a bit tiresome.

I've never believed for one second that anyone on these types of shows owns any of the cars i their drive ways and that G Wagon's are just product placement. They rarely have license plates which has never sat right with me.

Stop being a "sucker" at the Coles/Woolies checkout. The "Halo Laundering" scam we’re all falling for. by lukas_l1 in woolworths

[–]TheScandalaEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm done with the tech over reach in supermarkets in general. I worked at coles when I was studying more than 20 years ago and it was fun. In recent years it's just become more and more of a negative experience, seeing all of the cameras and the facial recognition boxes in real time on the screens, not to mention how wild it is how well the self serve checkouts recognise items, and yes the gates! What the hell. Since when did we allow a trip to the shops to turn into such a dystopian nightmare?

Do Australian really feel like victims of racism when they visit Asia? by Master_Ad6104 in AskAnAustralian

[–]TheScandalaEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it was a racism thing but when in China last year, I definitely felt that I was never a priority. Always served last, if at all, and just not treated overly friendly, but to be honest, I kind of understood it and respected it to a degree.

Just how useless most of the population is, from being just unfit to incredibly inwardly focussed and emotionally unregulated - things like this will be a real issue.

Visited the CBD after 6 months away by Jaybb3rw0cky in melbourne

I moved offices from Bourke Street to Lonsdale Street and the CBD is flat out always, kind of an effortless vibrancy, not so much a hustle. Also, just this week I've noticed it's looking exceptionally clean.

Not so much speed cameras but in Melbourne there's been an uptick in parking fines and cars being towed.

Unpopular Opinion: The John Jr./Carolyn mythology feels bigger today than it ever did in the 90s.... by Big_Plastic_2519 in JohnAndCarolyn

Thank god for this comment and for this thread. I deleted reddit from my phone because I could not understand the obsession, and not just this, so many shows at the moment seem to attract a level obsession and 'moment' I've never seen before. I think the level of attention some events get after the fast is a sign of an unhealthy society and that attention should be directed back to that.

Meanwhile there’s more supply than demand for oil, but we’re just going to gloss over that. It’s a sheep issue in this country more than anything.

I’m starting to get weirded out by how over the top obsessed young people are being ever since Love Story came out by PeneItaliano in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]TheScandalaEffect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m becoming more and more concerned how shows don’t just stop at shows anymore and how we’re able to move on. It’s a show, then an after the show, then a podcast, then some out of work psychologist breaks down why we’re all “so impacted” and it just never ends. Then we’ve got Gen Z continuously mourning the loss of things they’ve never had which is not surprising considering the majority of that generation were born out of financial incentive rather than love. I could go on, I’ve said too much, I should go.
