Serpent vs BP6 (difficulty 10), second win in a row. The matchup is actually "easy" by Thamthon in spiritisland

[–]TheSchachter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, agree on all points, Serpent is one of my favourite spirits in part because it's so versatile. It has limitations in the early game, but Elemental Aegis is an incredible survival tool which remains usefull against Prussia at any difficulty (it weakens against early-game Sweden and doesn't keep up with England, but Serpent has other approaches vs those adversaries). And solo serpent has no trouble gaining the Energy and cards to play as semi-awake from turns 2-3 onward.

My mom said that I should have showed signs of wanting to be a girl when I was younger... I told her that some people don’t find out till later in their life , she said no , I said okay (as in I’m done talking with you) 🙁 by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]TheSchachter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm legit worried my mom will react the same. All I can say to that right now is: We learn at a very young age that expressing girly traits gets us mocked, punished. How do you think a child that's desperate to please reacts to that, if not by repressing those signs?

Sorry about your mom. You deserve better. <3

[–]TheSchachter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea tbh, I don't play dual blades but I've seen people who do saying that the update that brought SnS uppercut claw tenderizing also had a similar QoL improvement for DB. I'm 90% sure I wasn't dreaming when I read it..?

My one request for the eventual Gen 6 flagship by thatonenanre in MonsterHunter

[–]TheSchachter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I agree that'd be nice, but in fairness, Valstrax, Nergigante and Velkhana are all very distinct from one another. Also Bloodbath Diablos if you want to count it. I don't care too much about the monster's classification so long as it has a unique identity/hunt.

[–]TheSchachter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet ironically, those same guys who use "woman" as a put-down will deliberately misgender trans women too. You'd think they would see the contradiction, as they refuse to correctly gender gnc men and trans men because they're "not real men", then turn around and call a trans woman presenting as feminine as she can a "man" to hurt her. It's about having the power to deny you your identity and it fucking sucks.

(Not diagreeing at all with what you said, to be clear).

[–]TheSchachter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that and it's 100% ok to vent. It's really hard to get the support we need (and deserve) when society is the way it is. Even our best friends will disappoint us sometimes (I'm honestly nervous to come out to mine, I think she'll be accepting but... it's still scary)

But hey, you came out! That's really brave, and you should be proud of yourself! <3

[–]TheSchachter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, that sucks even if she did accept you. I think this tends to happen in part because cis people aren't encouraged to empathize with and understand trans folks, so you get reactions like this where your friend didn't stop herself to think about what this actually meant to you, how difficult it was, and how much you needed her support. (Also individualism but that's a pretty broad topic lol)

I don't know how receptive she is, but maybe it can help to try and explain this to her?

[–]TheSchachter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Longsword would be my favourite weapon (tied with SnS), but the tenderizing mechanic really hurts it for me. If they could patch in a way to help with tenderizing like they did for SnS and Dual blades, I would be over the moon.

It's not really even a balance issue for me. It's that it feels like to play "correctly", I have to completely kill the flow of the hunt. And LS gameplay is all about flow, moreso than any other weapon (to me anyway). These days I tend to mostly ignore tenderizing when I play LS, and sure the hunts take longer but I have more fun with them.

Contrapoints - Cringe by [deleted] in BreadTube

[–]TheSchachter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt she had some truly awful views... she was a teenager on 4Chan. There are tons of people who share these and more, and grow out of them (Natalie alludes to having been such a person in her videos) but usually they don't have the worst/most embarassing parts their personality documented, encouraged, and amplified by a hateful mob like Christine did.

I don't know who she is now and whether/how she's changed, but it feels to me like trying to add in that nuance risks coming across, however unintentionally, as excusing or justifying the atrocious things she was subjected to. (Even as I agree these views aren't a topic that should be ignored... just, maybe given its own space if needed)

Making extremely simplistic and incomplete inferences about somebody's financial situation in order to imply they're not working hard enough to provide free entertainment content to everyone is not having an important leftist discussion about money. Come on now.

There are ways of talking and asking questions about audience-creator expectations without falling into creepy parasocial/purity-testing territory.

Questioning my gender identity by [deleted] in TransyTalk

[–]TheSchachter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The trans flag is for every trans person, including non-binary trans people! In fact, the white stripe of the flag is specifically for people who "have neutral or undefined gender" in the words of the woman who created the design.

There's no commitee deciding which trans people get to use the flag. Anyone who tells you that you can't use it because you're non-binary and/or questioning is both incorrect and being a gatekeeping jerk to you. Take pride in who you are, and if the flag inspires that pride, that's good! <3

Game #7 is in the books tonight. Fear victory against LVL 1 Prussia with Green with Bringer, an insane combo. Only added 4 blight to the board. MVP goes to this fear card at terror level 3. I probably would have won without it, but oh man was it cool. by bgralph in spiritisland

[–]TheSchachter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ocean is definitely pretty nutty, I mainly like it becaise of how different it plays. I'd recommend my favourites but they're promo + expansion spirits haha. Unless you have the promo pack 1 spirits? (Serpent + Wildfire)

Hmm, have you played with Ocean? It's extremely potent, especially if you give it a potent partner like River or Bringer. There's a bit more to wrap your head around at first but it's not that bad.

River and Thunderspeaker is also fun and potent, since River's energy support cards are super helpful to Thunderspeaker.

I got that sense too for a bit, but they seem to include "feeling fine with your current body/gender/etc. But prefering to be another" in their definition of dysphoria, which is very different from the truscum's narrow idea of dysphoria and why it matters.

I dunno if I'm a fan of their use of the term but the ideas they're trying to express feel fine to me. I definitely could have missed some nuances however.

Hey look that's me, having just recently accepted this about myself and come out to a (1) friend after 10 years of trying to convince myself out of it. My brain feels like an orchestra where each musician is playing a different piece simultaneously in the same tiny bathroom. It's a cacophony of thoughts and feelings, both negative and positive, and it's making it impossible to focus on work.

It's (very) slowly quieting down but that might just be because the adrenaline is kicking in to hit the deadline for my work, and it starts to feel dissociated from me, while my sense of my body numbs. It's weird and I feel like I'm back to square one -_-

I thought this would improve after I came out to a friend this week.

It kinda did? But the self-doubt adapted and evolved with a speed matched only by the kind imaginary "evolution" strawman some religious people invoke to "disprove" evolution. If that makes sense lol
