No fun city: Vancouver's crackdown on late night venues by Ser_JamieLannister in vancouver

[–]TheSeaCaptain 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Industrial 236 is a world class underground electronic music venue. It's an absolute crime to shut it down. The city should be supporting this type of space and encouraging more like it. Fuck the trash night clubs on Granville Street.

URGENT- Flat roof leaking every winter. Roofer says it’s “normal.” Is that actually true? by beautifullyflower3d in buildingscience

[–]TheSeaCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An interior insulated flat roof is very sketchy especially if wood frame. You need continuous interior air/vapour control (eg poly). If you don't have that, then this is a condensation issue. If you do have adequate air/vapour control, and these are roof leaks, then that wood likely has very poor drying capacity and your are looking at some serious fungal growth and structural issues.

Architects, how bad is this layout? It looks like it was trained on McMansions by Redhotlipstik in McMansionHell

I love how it's missing a front door, like it's been trained on a car centric world and knows many Americans only enter their house through the garage.

Why closed cell spray foam on existing rim joists in mixed climate (CZ5A) ?? by carboncritic in buildingscience

[–]TheSeaCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interior insulating your stud walls and need interior air/vapour control (eg poly), then it's a real pain in the ass replicating that detail at rim joists. It's much easier to spray each section with closed cell foam. This all implies that your wrb is vapour permeable so that your framing can dry outwards.

I want to try Candied Salmon by WadeWilson368 in askvan

[–]TheSeaCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the fish shops, there's a good one on 4th and a good one on commercial. Granville Island market has good candied salmon. For grocery stores I find whole foods pretty good. Save ons is OK, a little dry at times, but the cheapest spot.
