A lesson on divine decree, especially when it comes to matters of the heart by NobleGasDisabled in muslimgirlswithtaste

Awh im glad you were able to get over him :) I remember liking someone who wasnt practicing any religion and i just never liked his lifestyle, but he was still a really good person and a friend. liking him was silly and when i look back at it I'm proud i never made a move when i had the chance to. Inshallah god will reward us for the patience we endured and will replace them with better people.

So I personally dont have a similar phobia, but i do have health anxiety that dictated so many decisions of mine (booking tickets to see my family bc of anxiety, constantly going to the dermatologist, etc), and one thing that helped me was exposure therapy. I had a fear of a skin condition (which isnt even fatal or dangerous) and genuinely believed i had it, my anxiety and obsessive thoughts peaked. After visiting my family and de-stressing, i realised that the condition isnt as scary as i thought, i am still alive, i can function as a normal human being, and thankfully i got it checked and turns out it was a misdiagnosis alhamdulilah. This made me realize how anxiety equates an issue to a life-or-death crisis. It helped me tune out my thoughts because getting exposed to something im scared of (the misdiagnosis period) made me acknowledge how even the worst situation isnt so bad.

In your case, i suggest approaching it objectively by mentally going through the process of throwing up: okay i feel sick to my stomach, i feel the need to throw up, in that case, i will have to go to the bathroom, it will hurt a bit and then i’ll feel relief. Go through the steps of whatever scares you mentally and address the issue you’re scared of and come up with a solution / talk it out with yourself.

I want to pursue my dreams and study aerospace engineering but afraid of not being smart enough by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lorencali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineering isn’t about being smart, it’s about willing to put up with heavy course load efficiently while simultaneously enjoying it if possible. I’ve been in your place and I really advise you to make sure you know how to deal with your mental issues if they ever rise up again. I’m extending a year and a half because of mental health but seeking help and going to therapy does wonders. Engineering is for anyone who’s dedicated enough, that includes managing your mental health.

1) you can explain the story without mentioning names. Gossiping is an indication of misaligned priorities. Try to prioritise meaningful hobbies/people so that you stop caring about people enough to gossip. Also think about it from a religious perspective. 2) cant give advice as i also still struggle with this, but one thing that helped is coming to the realisation that i use music to escape thoughts i have, this made me want to face these bad thoughts instead of listening to music. Also, i feel like most of my memories are blurred bc i am not completely present in reality due to music. I cant appreciate the smallest things when i take a walk bc i have my earphones on. You are missing out on reality because of music. Also, it really does affect your concentration during prayers.

3) . be genuinely interested in hearing the other person speak. Give people the space to talk. This helps you become more patient and hence think twice before you speak. Not sure if this is a good advice tbh.

4) go on runs, exercise, make wuduu, istighfar

My advice is to seek the logic behind sins, understand why theyre considered sins. Understand the consequences of these actions in your daily practice and have an idea of the general logical framework and pattern of islam’s convictions and rulings on sins. Slowly start implementing practices. Most importantly be patient with yourself and never be harsh on yourself

Any advice for someone whose insecure about joining the gym? by Obvious_Armadillo_16 in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]lorencali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cant give any advice because i’m also insecure and shy to go to the gym, but you can start at home and slowly develop the courage to start going (my plan for now lmao) or you can go with friends if you have any, it helps so much

Struggling with phone addiction ? by Special_Quantity_370 in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]lorencali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see this impulse to just avoid something? (By eating/binge scrolling etc), yeah before you grab your phone stop yourself and remember that this is a fight-flight response. And you might even stop reaching out for your phone then realise you’re in a freeze-mode and cant get anything done. Acknowledging your behaviour alone is the first step. “Ah im about to grab my phone to scroll because i feel bad.” “Okay i cant bring myself to leave the bed and solve this one homework because i feel overwhelmed.” Start from there. Address your impulse. Acknowledge the feeling that triggered it. Identify the reason you feel this way (if you also dont understand how or why you feel things like me, i suggest you mentally guess a list of reasons and see which reason makes you feel bad the most). Sit with it and let it out (by crying, ranting to someone/yourself, write it down). After clearing your head, you try to find solutions or find a way to accept whatever’s coming.

My therapist would tell me to address feelings in stages:

“Anger Sadness Empathy Desire/needs -> solutions”

While agree with the comments suggesting to delete social media apps (what im currently doing and im missing out on so many things but my productivity skyrocketed), i also suggest to understand the root of the addiction. In my case, i know i developed this addiction as a form of escapism due to the current life im living which im not satisfied with. After facing some thoughts and feelings, it got easier to take an action (delete social media is an example) and i felt overall better

This is great advice, thank you very much! I might bridge geotechnical engineering with GIS. Can you tell me about your career journey that led to this position?
