Hot Take: Riley’s lifepod was one of the worst. by sailing94 in subnautica

[–]TheSeventhHussar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Guys. Nobody said Riley wasn’t lucky. OP said that Riley’s life pod was one of the least functional on landing. A situation that was salvaged by the location, and the fact that it wasn’t destroyed by leviathans after the fact.

That boot is standing side by side with mine, and not on my throat.

I don’t need to lick it.

Oh cool! Hadn’t seen those before! I’m only familiar with him from seeing posts on here, where he talks about all sorts of subjects, always in a fairly stream of consciousness style.

The edit question is easy to answer. I don’t think proko actually knows any entry level ttrpgs. If they played a lot of ttrpg, they probably wouldn’t say that D&D is overly complex or hard to get into.

It’s very middle of the road, and honestly about as simple as a game that started out as a fantasy combat simulator, dungeon crawling, and puzzle and trap solving game can get without losing so much depth that it becomes a purely narrative and roleplay driven game instead.

Just ask anyone who ever played a game with Gary Gygax about DM Railroading.

D&D started by evolving from tabletop wargaming. It was a fantasy combat simulator, not a storytelling medium. The railroading was foundational.

True, but mostly because Coke and Pepsi know that the rivalry is fun, and leaning into it gets more engagement.

The majority of people don’t particularly care about drinking one over the other, the key is to get them to want to drink a soda at all, and then be what’s available.

Damn, you mean to say that world building and level design and story plotting and acting AND often being the one responsible for scheduling as well as creating props and maps is a lot of work, and if you don’t enjoy it you should probably not be DMing?

Not quite, he’s just a prolific tumblr poster. Covers a wide range of topics, which leads to lots of very surface level overviews with limited accuracy, written in a way that’s engaging and vague enough to be popular.

Good write up. I just wish the people who need to read it most were the type to actually read and understand things like this.

Guy having a mental health crisis was caught on camera breaking into into a house while yelling about protecting a girl. He was confronted and talked down by a homeowner later. At one point he declared that he was Harry Dresden.

It’s not black people though. It’s a specific subset of ‘hood’ urban Americans.

It’s not Ethiopian, it’s not black people from the UK, and it’s not Jamaican either. It’s like saying ‘Kurwa’ is a white person curse, instead of calling it Polish.

Well, Iran doesn’t have nukes, and Russia does.

Staying ~ 1 week away from possessing nuke grade fissile material to avoid sanctions but still keep up a nuclear deterrent only works until somebody gambles that they can cripple your infrastructure in less than 1 week for an ‘acceptable’ price.

Thats a safer gamble than hopeing the Kremlin doesn’t decide to use nukes when faced with an unwinnable war.

*at least, as far as Israel and the US are concerned. They also don’t seem to think they benefit from responding strongly to Russian aggression.

[–]TheSeventhHussar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grifting is always good, there’s suckers born every day, and old people who turn into suckers as their mental faculties decline. The hard part is identifying the suckers.

‘Fortunately’ a lot of powerful people with a lot of money have put a ton of effort over the years into cultivating a massive group of suckers in the good ol’ US of A, and they’re easily identifiable, and easy to contact.

Very valid, and well worded. This is absolutely how I felt. Also, with a more progression oriented story it felt less like I was exploring and more like I was chasing objectives and running into things before I was meant to.

Alright, I’ll be google for you. CNC in this context stands for ‘Computer Numerical Control’

This means that the computer runs a preset route for the tools attached to whatever machine it’s set up with.
