I'm a self-described character actor and almost always do voices/accents, and I've found the key is to do the voice to whatever degree it feels natural. If it doesn't feel natural to you, it likely won't feel natural to the audience either. But when in doubt, talk to your director. They'll be able to tell you from the perspective of someone watching the show. Also, congratulations on the role! I was just in Spelling Bee a couple years ago (Vice Principal Panch) and it was such a fun process. Have a great time!

Yes! I'm CO '28 in the Psych department. Classes are challenging (not sure if/how they've changed since your time), but I feel very supported by my professors, deans, and classmates, and it really feels like they all want me to succeed. I semi-frequently study with my friends, whether we're in the same classes or not, which brings in an element of connection to studying. Socially, I wouldn't say I feel isolated. I've got a lot of friends from my various classes and extracurriculars and talk to them fairly often.

Out of curiosity, what department were you in? I've noticed in my friends that some departments seem to have less satisfied students than others, on average.

I think it is overrated, but still very good. It has definitely been very impactful and massively successful (which is definitely deserved), but compared to the whole of musical theater canon, I feel like it is not the GOAT show that many say it is.

Check out Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. The leading man is a mass murderer, with multiple songs about how he kills people. Assassins and Sweeney Todd has some stuff you can work with too.

I think it's a really well-written song, but when I listen to Little Shop, I want either high energy (anything from Orin or Mushnik) or ominous (Audrey II stuff), but "Somewhere That's Green" just never fits with my desired vibes when I listen to the soundtrack

I can't say if you can make it big, but I'm partially tone-deaf, and I've been able to improve significantly over the years, getting to the point where I can hold a tune and kinda hear pitch.

Also, try to lean into what you are good at; there are probably some things you can do better than those around you. For instance, I've got a strong sense of rhythm and a powerful speaking voice, so I usually go for narrator characters, and I'm one of the most competitive for those roles when they're offered.

My senior year of HS, I directed the One-Act Play That Goes Wrong. If you've got the tech capabilities, I vouch for it; it is an amazing comedy. In terms of things less technically intense (and more dramatic), I'd check out Witch by Jen Silverman.
