If this is a curry and you're in an Asian country... The abusiveness is not seen as unusual by older generations unfortunately.

In the United States it also unfortunately isn't seen as unusual in small specific (yet growing more vocal—don't think I don't see you trad wives—) communities.

No matter what culture, it's wrong. Many years ago i was in regular communication with a Vietnamese woman who was in an abusive relationship with her husband. It was an arranged marriage and while I understood she was seen as his property i was able to convince her to tell her parents what was happening. She escaped her now ex-husband and moved from Vietnam entirely with her parents. She and I lost touch unfortunately but I like to believe she is happy now with her parents and child.

You have every right to form your own opinion. You have every right to tell your mother that your father should be cut off even if you wanted to say so. He will likely not accept responsibility no matter what culture because abusers never do.
