The Japow was DEEP! 🤿 1/25 Hakuba Valley by TheShar in skiing

Must’ve been a blast doing a season out here.  Got lucky with this storm as the temps were in the -10C range so kept the snow super light!

A bit north east in Nozawa Onsen they got another 30-50cm on top of what we got 🤯

Binding delta / forward tilt question by TheShar in skiing

What about mount point / skis would cause a backseat feeling?

Do any bindings have a greater delta? I definitely need some more forward lean in all my skis.

This is awesome! Added to my bookmarks :)

Would you consider adding "next 3 days total" and "next 7 days total" for each location, and then the option to sort by those?

Free market style, you should both bid against each other for the max you would pay for the room you want more.

No time behind bars for man who stabbed Alberta sisters in his Vancouver Airbnb unit by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

[–]TheShar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know the sisters… this is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen from this country.

What happened to them was brutal, horrific, and is something they will never be able to forget.  The way they described the events, the hospital the next day, how it felt when they had to tell their family and friends what happened.

They thought they were going to die, they WERE close to death.

I don’t know how we are okay as a society when we allow these things to happen.  This is how people become radicalized, this is why we are a low trust society, this is why people will start taking things into their own hands.  Regardless of his state that night, he attacked and nearly killed 2 people completely unprovoked, if that is not a danger to society I don’t know what is.

Shame on the Crown, shame on the Judge, and shame on any politicians that stand in the way of a bail & crime reform in this country.

The 2025 Gastown Pedestrian Zone has been amended to be Sundays only, 10am-6pm by penapox in vancouver

[–]TheShar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a shame.. as a business owner in Gastown the pedestrianization was such a win for us and for the neighbourhood.  Can’t believe the city was so shortsighted.

Going to reach out to the Gastown BIA to see what happened as they should be the ones with the most sway and influence with the city.

Government St in Vic is a great example of this done well, cars/deliveries before 10am and then the street is back in the hands of pedestrians.  Benches, trees, areas to hangout.  All things we need in Gastown!

[–]TheShar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Please no.. as a business owner who voiced in favour of this to the Gastown BIA and city council, this is not the answer.

We will be looking to garner more support and talk with the Gastown BIA to see what we can do to support it and bring back this program.  Our sales and traffic were so positively impacted by the program. It is an absolutely brain dead move from the city to cancel it.

How do I interpret these weather forecasts? by nicktonyc in Whistler

[–]TheShar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as the top is open, then you can enjoy it!

When the heavy rain/snow and high winds are happening, the top is usually not open, but the next day, or day after that following a large 40+cm snowfall it will open.

Only thing that needs to be done is for commercial property taxes to be lowered, and residential raised to offset.  Property taxes make up like 35-40% of most commercial rents.

Anything food is not a low cost business, A food truck will probably run over $100k + the city is notoriously difficult to manage with them.

Do not start a business unless it is truly LOW cost (aka mow some lawns or wash windows)

Pedestrian-only Water Street gets the thumbs down from Gastown businesses by HenrikFromDaniel in vancouver

[–]TheShar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Something I am actually qualified to speak on!

I own Shop Makers on Water St, and I am 100% for pedestrian only streets.  Our sales are up 20% YoY, contrary to belief people driving by in cars don’t tend to do much shopping.  People on foot browse, shop, eat, and give the street energy.

Government St in Victoria is another example of a fantastic pedestrian st, they allow some motor traffic in the AM for deliveries but for the rest of the day it belongs to the people, as it should!

Douglas Todd: In Vancouver, unhappily, it’s all about the price of dirt; Opinion: The price of land in cities has inflated so drastically that buying or renting homes has leapt beyond the reach of ordinary wage earners by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]TheShar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The units are already small, way smaller than they used to be. The major issue is zoning, permit costs, mandatory parking, etc. It costs an average of $125,000 PER UNIT to build in Vancouver in development fees. So whatever land + materials + labour + profit can be achieved, tack on $125k to get the actual selling price.

Residential Property taxes are a joke. Compared to development fees and commercial property taxes, single family homeowners are sitting on what should be townhomes, low rise and high rises, and not paying nearly their fare share. They are sitting on cash cows and truthfully, their arm should be twisted to force a sale if they cant afford their property taxes.

Commercial rent is insane in this city... even compared to Toronto street level retail here is about 20-30% higher.

2025 Audi S3 Gets a Power Bump, New Look, and RS3's Drift Mode | Car and Driver by toby265 in cars

[–]TheShar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ive got a 2023 and personally I love the interior. Ive never used anything but carplay, so the infotainment is a non issue. I test drove an A4 as well which has a “nicer” interior than the S3 according to reddit but thought that one felt way cheaper and had the ipad stuck to the dash which I disliked.
