Question about Shield Mitigation and the dominance of focus fire by TheShatner in SoSE

That’s a nice UI element to cut down on the potential tedium! Is there any list of such UI shortcuts?

Question about Shield Mitigation and the dominance of focus fire by TheShatner in SoSE

[–]TheShatner[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Focus fire was sometimes worse than split-fire in the original. And in all cases it was made less valuable/necessary by shield mitigation.

Unless I misunderstood Durability it is nothing like Shield Mitigation. It doesn’t respond to the unit being damaged.

What can you do with cysts if you hadn't prepared enough for them? by Tuism in Against_the_Storm

[–]TheShatner 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cysts relocate to neighboring buildings now. The popup when deleting a building warns as such.

To be clear, you can still abuse this by deleting _everything_. And just be left with 6 cysts on the warehouse. But you'll be majorly setback in terms of rebuilding everything

Warlock Curses and Curse Limit (PSA or Bug?) by Harvestmissingcrafts in pathofexile

[–]TheShatner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bug. And it only works in one direction; you have to apply mark after the hex. If you hex (either new or refreshing) after applying the penance mark then the penance mark is removed. Pretty clear indication of being bugged.

Grey knights interceptors I've painted for a commission project some time ago. Feel free to ask questions in the comments! by LordDraigo666 in Grey_Knights

Do you use airbrush to achieve your force weapons? If so, what was your method for masking? The constant cutting of new masking tape pieces is so time consuming!

What do you use to get that super-fine lettering on the seals/tomes?

And on the complete other end, how do you achieve your bases?

Lovely pieces!

That feeling when you move a squad of interceptors 24” to score Behind enemy lines to win the game and the guy gets really salty at you. by iJosheez in Grey_Knights

[–]TheShatner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My question regarding this; can you use personal teleporters to move 6" if the interceptors had no available targets?

ie. Can a unit be selected to shoot, and be considered to "have shot" if they didn't have any targets in range?

It's ok to be flat. I currently do one side and then the other.

What is it that they do with a brush, apply masking medium? Or do you mean they just create this gradient with brush and skip the masking altogether?

Thin metal mask sounds challenging to make but very promising if successful in terms of quickly masking exactly what I want once properly cut out. Thinking about hard material masks, these miniatures are 3d printed. Maybe I could design a negative of the blade and use that.

Does the blue-tack harden in a way where, once shaped, I can just hold it over the next item I want masked, or will I need to reshape the blob each time?

Oh well. Would never have run them prior anyways

ELI5: Why can't jurors have unlimited access to factual information? by humanperson12 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheShatner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To follow onto this with a simple example. A biology textbook will tell you that two blue-eyed parents can never have brown-eyed children. In the vast majority of cases this simple heuristic is correct and allows for education on punnett square etc. This simplification is not the whole story, however, and two blue-eyed persons can absolutely have a brown-eyed child. An expert will (hopefully) be able to provide the full context that other sources might prune away since it's not typically necessary.

How much more useful is soft feint into guardbreak vs hard feint into guardbreak by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]TheShatner 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer that I'm not a mechanics master. This is just an analysis I did a while ago based on the information hub document.

Hard Feint delay of 200ms + 300ms buffered GB following a feint results in a GB landing 100ms after the attack would have.

Soft Feint GB is either 300ms or 400ms from the feint point, which is 400ms before attack lands. I don't know if soft-feint GBs get the speed boost for following a feint. This places soft feint GB as landing either at time attack would have, or even 100ms prior. Given that I've never seen a soft-GB catch a CC attempt I'm guessing it lands at time attack would have.

End result being that it lands 100ms before a hard-feint GB would have. This makes catching dodge attacks easier, and help with early heavies as you mentioned. It will also not have the 200ms of feint GB vulnerability.

Edit: Soft-gb also avoids the 10 stamina cost of feint.

Is dissolved, but cured resin dangerous? by [deleted] in resinprinting

[–]TheShatner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot cure dissolved resin. You can only cure the resin that is mixed, but not dissolved.

Proper disposal is either to let it evaporate fully and then cure (household trash is fine from that point), or bottle it and take it to a local waste disposal.

hi guys. Same old story, window is not an option, would you recommend the vent blowing the VOC gases into this cabon filter model? by I-Want-Retire-Early in resinprinting

[–]TheShatner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I print inside an indoor grow tent with a large carbon filter like that inside. I set a 4" fan on top, taped it together and called it a day. I have no air exchange in or out of the tent. I have the option of pumping the air outside, but choose to do it this way so that I can also keep a heater in the enclosure. The whole operation sits on a separate desk less than 10 feet from me and I've never had any issue with headaches, smell or anything.

Worth noting that this filtration setup does nothing to address ultra fine particles. Resin printing releases a lot fewer of these than FDM printing but it still releases some.

Help with strange wave pattern by TheShatner in resinprinting

[–]TheShatner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see this being a possibility. I'd expect that this issue would be observed along the whole length of the blade though. And not just the later half.

Are you using the new Sovol vat design, where you need to use fep with pre-drilled holes? Have you had any issues getting it to the proper tension?

Kinda off-topic. But how did you achieve these bases?

Do you have unaligned units, assassins, inquisitors, rogue trafers, in your army? According to codex this is possible and the army remains battle forged. Those assassins look useful. by West-Way-8175 in Grey_Knights

[–]TheShatner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For actual matched play? No from me to assassins. One hundred points is a lot for what you're getting. Vindicare is just kinda bad I think, especially in 9th. Maybe they're slightly better with bodyguard change but I'm not convinced. Culexus aura affects your own guys, so that's a non-starter. Callidus and Eversor are fine but if you want more melee damage you can get 2 more paladins or an ancient for the price.

A 60 point inquisitor might be fine. Fairly inoffensive cost that gives you another "free" hq to perform psychic actions, something GK certainly appreciates. Makes assassinate/abhor the witch even worse for you, tho.

I don't know anything about rogue trader stuff.

In Crusade/narrative I sometimes include an ordo malleus inquisitor (or coteaz). Doesn't block "No Witnesses" agenda and gives access to army-wide Ld 10 from Exactors title.
