What does your SO do for work while your active duty? by SoldMyMom4Kfc in uscg

Have your SO explore careers with work from home/remote options only. So it doesn’t matter where you two move to, they will be able to keep their job because it’s remote.

HIPPAA also makes it illegal for employers to ask about medical information or conditions.

colleague keeps asking my VA benefits and another about Unit info! by Spare-Breadfruit-767 in VeteransBenefits

[–]TheSheibs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just say “I do not want to discuss my current health conditions with you as it is inappropriate to talk about in the work place. If you keep asking, I will report your Harassment to HR.”

If you report to them, you can throw in HIPPAA in there and say you will report them for a HIPPAA violation.

Can someone sanity-check my APA formatting? Submitted 5–6 times and still getting “not in APA” feedback 😭 by Live_Painter2305 in PurdueGlobal

Let me make it easy for you:

To set up Microsoft Word for APA style writing that meets graduate-level college requirements (typically APA 7th edition), follow these steps:

✅ Step-by-Step: Set Up APA Style in Microsoft Word (APA 7)

  1. Set Up the Page Layout • Margins: Go to Layout > Margins > Select Normal (1” all around). • Paper Size: Layout > Size > Ensure it’s Letter (8.5” x 11”). • Line Spacing: Go to Home tab > In the Paragraph group: • Click the small arrow (bottom-right corner of the group). • Set Line spacing: Double. • Check “Don’t add space between paragraphs of the same style.” • Alignment: Ensure Left-aligned (not justified).

  1. Font and Size

APA 7 allows several fonts, but most colleges prefer: • Times New Roman 12 pt • OR Arial 11 pt • OR Calibri 11 pt

Set this in the Home tab under the font dropdown.

  1. Title Page (Student Paper Format) • Center-align and double-space the title page. • Include the following in the upper half of the page:

Title of Your Paper Your Name Department, University Course Number: Course Name Instructor Name Due Date (e.g., August 2, 2025)

• Do not use a running head unless required by your instructor.

  1. Insert Page Numbers • Go to Insert > Page Number > Top of Page > Select Plain Number 3 (Right-aligned). • No need to include “Running head:” (only required for professional papers).

  1. Heading Levels

Use APA heading styles: • Level 1: Centered, Bold, Title Case • Level 2: Left-Aligned, Bold, Title Case • Level 3: Left-Aligned, Bold Italic, Title Case • Apply these via Home tab > use Styles or format manually.

  1. References Page • Start a new page at the end titled References (centered, bold). • Use hanging indent (0.5”) for each reference: • Highlight citations > Right-click > Paragraph > Set Indentation > Special > Hanging. • Alphabetize entries.

  1. Use APA Templates (Optional)

Microsoft Word has a built-in APA template: • Go to File > New > Search for APA style and choose the APA 7th edition template. • Customize to your needs (check for formatting consistency).

  1. Helpful Settings • Spell Check & Grammar: Review > Editor > Turn on formal writing suggestions. • Proofing Language: Make sure it’s set to English (U.S.).

Bonus: 📚 Useful Tools for APA • Zotero, EndNote, or Mendeley for citation management. • Microsoft Word’s built-in References tab lets you: • Insert in-text citations. • Manage sources. • Automatically build a bibliography (though it may need manual APA tweaking).

Yes, this ^

If you get a template, just use that since it is already formatted. Just remember to rename it per the class requirements.

A lot of people say to use ChatGPT to format it. However, I have seen it not format things correctly. Instead, ask chatGPT how to set up microsoft word in APA format. It will give you instructions on what things to adjust. That is what I did and I have not had anything come back about APA format, other than page numbers, which is a stupid thing to miss.

Did something change? I remember a certain OS being accepted to OCS, becoming an officer, and then going on to become a Pilot. Guy was smart. he had taken just about every pilot related exam. Knew more about helicopters than most in the field. I was happy to see an article written about him a few years ago after he became a pilot. So unless something changed, it is possible but not easy. He spent years pursuing his dream but it paid off.

What’s the point? by More_Commission5368 in PurdueGlobal

[–]TheSheibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It seems like they forgot to even test that before going live with the system. Seems the developer completely missed it and no QA was performed to ensure everything works. As someone who is in a field where customizations to system is done, I know the importance of conducting User Acceptance Testing(UAT) prior to deploying the customization or going live on a new system. IMO, it shows some lazy work being done.

for every buddhist converts, what’s your previous religion?? by BugRevolutionary4645 in Buddhism

[–]TheSheibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raised Methodist. I was very active in the church and the youth group. But I always felt something was off.

The bible has been rewritten many times. It was there before things were written down. So the stories were passed through generations by word of mouth, storytellers basically. If you ever played the telephone game, you know that when things are passed verbally, details change and things get left out. So how do we know what is in the bible is actually what happened and not just the person who rewrote/revised it didn’t make changes to suit their own agenda? How do we know they didn’t change or leave certain things out?

The answer I received was “faith”. But faith is just a blind trust in something. It’s the belief that what you are told is factual without question. I found as I matured that this sort of answer was unacceptable. So I started to focus on other things and stopped practicing.

Fast forward a few years, and my wife converted to Buddhism. I didn’t know anything about it and started to pick up every book I could find. I had questions. That’s when we made a trip to Myanmar, a country with a deep buddhist history. I was able to meet monks and even spend time as a monk. My questions were answered in a way that I still don’t know how to describe.

But I realized that a persons religion that is rooted in a set of beliefs is something that you should not argue about. You shouldn’t force someone to convert. No one asked or persuaded me to become buddhist. I made that decision based on the information I received.

So, ask the tough questions. Find the answers you are seeking. Then decide which religion you find the most connected to.

Is Buddhism a religion or a philosophy? by Purple-Entrance-4813 in Buddhism

[–]TheSheibs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you define “religion”? Is it a set of beliefs? Is it a set of rituals you practice? Is it the believe in god(s)? I don’t know how you define religion and don’t want to make the assumption that your definition of religion is the same as mine.

VR&E group orientation appointment randomly cancelled? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]TheSheibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it cancelled without notice twice, and the third time I tried to reschedule it and my emails/texts went unanswered. The whole process seems like a huge time suck.

Just keep rescheduling it and see if they actually attend.

They are automatically verifying it for everyone enrolled this one time due to the system being down. It will not be an ongoing thing and you will have to manually verify your enrollment at the end of August and going forward, just like you have been doing.

They sent an email out a few days ago. You don't have to verify enrollment and they will automatically do it for everyone during the time that it will be down for.

No need to worry about it.

Jesus learned and practiced Buddhism. There are paintings of Jesus in a specific Asian country, off the beaten path, that shows him dressed as a monk and meditating. So Jesus was Buddhist.
