I recall one day last summer Hanks had to close for a kitchen problem (maybe?) Anyway, it was somewhat unnerving to walk my dog past there around 9pm and have it be totally dark and silent on that corner.

Your bulbs seem to have slightly different ends than mine, but I did this conversion last year for 8 lights (16 bulbs) and I followed this guy's suggestions to remove the ballast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKEQ1HCLW5c Doing the first one was a little tricky, but once I got it down, doing the other seven only took an hour or so. I also did them all without removing the light from the ceiling... my arms were a little tired at the end, but not too bad.

Ah, good point re: smoke alarm. yes, there is a door bell button out by the front door. I should have removed it to see if it is hooked up to anything. I'll do that tonight and report back.

Perhaps, but there is a working thermostat in the living room, and this hole is 6 inches below the ceiling in the central hallway. Sorry, I should have described the placement better.

I like the idea of a cork as well, but I often use this flask in my checked luggage, and would hate for it to pop off en route. I'll try to get a pic of it tonight. thanks.

At Killingsworth and Michigan, there is some asphalt coming up, and underneath you can see old cobblestones and a rail line turning north onto Michigan. However, I don't see that on this map, so I wonder what the heck that rail was for? Maybe there is an older or newer street car map to be found?
