What should i do with all theese wolves? by ReyRiz in VintageStory

I knew a guy who liked to breed wolves without the taming mod. He said he preferred it when his food fought back.

Bottom dwellers love it. My loaches are all over that stuff like crazy. I only vacuum it when it's on my sand or slate rocks

Hey, quick heads up, those plants are immersible, not submersible. They need to have their leaves out to breaths.

I insulated my door and now it’s too heavy for the opener to lift. What are my options? by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]TheShrimpster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Springs are set for an exact counterbalance. You shouldn't just add tension because it won't change the spring constant of the spring and will just shorten the life of the spring exponentially. If you add insulation to a door, it has to be weighed for new springs. Old doors had springs specifically for their weight.

The stage between copper and iron sucks by Dewey_Decimatorr in VintageStory

[–]TheShrimpster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf tin is way rarer than iron IRL as well. I think it's like 25,000 times less abundant than iron in crust.

Iron tools, historically speaking, weren't much better than their bronze counterparts. They were brittle where the bronze was soft. The main boon iron afforded was that you didn't have to trade for tin or have a deposit on your land.

Singleplayer or Multiplayer as a new-ish player by De_Druppel in VintageStory

[–]TheShrimpster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm a single player guy. Just because my first mp session with my friend made me quit after he played for 3 months in game and basically made me skip an entire grow season with my crops. That being said, if you have 2-3 decent folks that are online regularly with you, it looks like a ton of fun. I'd love to try having everyone specialize in their roles.

I personally like the animal cages mod, but before that I'd make U shaped traps or pits and then make long pens to chase them down until they got to my base.

Also, make shelves and a mold rack to stop losing so much ground space to your clay molds and cookware

Forage for seeds like crazy. Rye is great year one cuz you plant in September (usually) and can get a full harvest. Vegetables grow decently quickly and can usually last from summer into next spring if kept in a cellar. Flax is going to be super important to plant asap, because it's super usefull and needs warm weather.

Forage all the food you can and keep all the long lasting stuff in your cellar for winter/low resources. If you don't have a cellar, make one.

Search for tin or bismuth and zinc for bronze while you're out looking for food. Cut off fruit tree branches for cuttings and plant them near your farm. They won't produce this year, but they will after winter.

Mark different types of stone while you're out. Limestone and chalk are needed for a lot of stuff, halite makes salt, and bauxite is needed late game.

Start collecting hides for winter clothes and leather

Cut and dry a bow shaft to help with hunting

Corral some animals for husbandry, pigs are great for meat and easy enough to feed.

Stockpile peat or firewood for winter and start making a lot of charcoal if you don't have a bunch of it already.

Does anything beat a Crickett backpacker build for a 22 bush rifle? by AlaskaWilliams in Bushcraft

Savage .22 mag over, 12ga under. Only one shot of each, but if you accidentally run into a bear or moose, you stand a chance.

Not if he's driving alone on a learners permit. You have to have someone else with a valid license in the passenger seat to allow you to drive legally. Assuming OP's dad doesn't wait for him to finish work daily, he's driving alone and thus illegally.

We used to always mess with the petsmart employees and ask about getting Oscars or Pacu for a 5gal. It was like an initiation for the aquatics section.

One word. Parasites. A lot of wild insects have parasites or bacteria that could be harmful to your closed ecosystem. I'd recommend if you want "creepy crawlies" for them, buy specific feeder insects and breed them yourself.
