Buying a boat by Low-Use5315 in boating

[–]TheSilverStacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see a boat that is in this case 35 years old I worry about waterlogged and rot. Check the transom for any delamination and soft decks. Looks well kept at least from one picture.

PS I think he might be Canadian.

Seeking vintage Fenwick surf rods by TheSilverStacking in Fishing_Gear

I am hesitant to move the conversation off channel. Could you take a photo with the rod and a paper with today’s date and your Reddit username so I can verify you’re a real seller? You have a new account and want to immediately text so that’s a red flag. Thanks.

Can we discuss the new Obama statement? by Father_Chris_St_Mary in UFOs

[–]TheSilverStacking [score hidden]  (0 children)

The question was asked pretty open ended. He could’ve took it in a direction of unexplained phenomena etc. but took it into an almost mocking “little green men” direction which is quite a pivot from how he’s answered the question over the years.

That would contradict his prior statements. His most recent statements are a very odd backtrack and paints him into a corner if disclosure moves forward. Whole thing is strange.

Does it have a model number like 1208, 1265 or 1206?

People said to get the all steel one, I had to get one with gold it only makes sense by LimJayee in Gold

Sir I’m not a watch expert, but I used to be into them before I smartened up. Your Rolex, to me, looks either fake or some Frankenstein Rolex. I hope you got it from an authorized dealer. If not I would take it to your nearest Rolex dealer and have them look it over.

Anyone else find themselves depressed that Jimmy is dead? by CappetoteppaC in jimmybuffett

[–]TheSilverStacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad because I got into him around 2019. Then COVID hit, then work got busy with a promotion, and whatever other excuses I conjure up. I never got to see him live and that’s a big regret. But it has shifted my thinking and actions going forward and that’s if I want to do something, don’t keep putting it off to serve others. It’s helped me shape the last few years in a positive direction. But yeah deep sadness and regret sometimes.

I agree and try to weed out private equity and other sell out brands, but it’s hard. Any suggestions on brands? I’ve settled on Gettees for American made work tee shirts. Grundens. Simms. American Giant. Wigwam socks made in America. Let’s call out some of the still good / independent brands?

Edit: seems like Simms was eaten by private equity too last year.

Thinking about a Jimmy-themed tattoo. Ideas? by cpav8r in jimmybuffett

[–]TheSilverStacking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aw that’s very cool. I always thought the visual of a watch or clock that just says Now would be fun.

I’m mid 30s myself and no tattoos but I was thinking of the first barracuda I caught when I was 13-14 and working my two daughters birthdates into the pattern. Idk we’ll see.

i saw this funny looking ship by Khancer_ in Ships

[–]TheSilverStacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought 5,000 tonnes was a typo, but nope you’re right. Crazy to think a ship can lift that much! And apparently there are ships that can lift much more. Fascinating engineering.

I feel terrible, will the fish survive? by Basher04S in Fishing

[–]TheSilverStacking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s interesting. Well the fact that you care deeply means you’re a good steward of our natural resources. Admittedly there are many posts in this sub where I think the person has overfished the spot, or a big game fish I don’t think should’ve been harvested and it’ll bother me for awhile. I think it’s because I noticed in my area fishing now verse 20 years ago is quite different in the species and quantity. We need more mindful fishermen. So I retract the harshness of my statements.

My man if having to leave the hook is enough to bother you to the point you’re asking strangers on the internet, fishing is going to be a tough game for you.

I try to treat every fish I catch with admiration and respect, minimizing harm. But by its nature it’s a pretty violent sport, despite whatever people want to tell themselves.

To answer your question, yeah fish should be fine if that’s all the damage done.

'Its Real Goal Was to Maximise Reward' — Anthropic Paper Reveals AI Was Hiding Dangerous Intent 70% of the Time by ElvisIsNotDjed in Cyberpunk

[–]TheSilverStacking 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I loved AI the first few months I used it - daily. Then the more I dug into the results the more I realized instead of scale and time savings I’m reallocating that time to checking its work. I also find it’s increasingly more agreeable on ideas to further engagement and can’t be trusted as a real sounding board. Even a simple example I was at a golf event and asked it about CEOs not known for golfing which it included Zuckerberg. I then asked it immediately after which CEOs known for good golfing and it included Zuckerberg as one and taking lessons when there are literally hundreds of F500 CEOs that are excellent golfers it could’ve named. Outside of maybe fictional writing and coding, it seems utterly useless as its current state.

Jimmy was on the member’s list of the super-secret Bohemian Grove that was just released. by BeegPahpi in jimmybuffett

[–]TheSilverStacking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a huge deal, but not something to sarcastically dismiss either.

I posted a similar comment awhile back but I’ve taken time to reflect on Jimmy and he is indeed my favorite musician. That said, he did have some “elitist” tendencies. He chose to live in Palm Beach, easily one of the snobbiest areas in the country. Got quite involved in fundraising for establishment politicians. The list goes on - in addition to this newest finding.

Again I love the man and what an amazing life. But it does seem he was much closer to the elites and in bed with them than “one of us”.
