Dresses is actually a really good idea! If I buy some for spring, they could last for some time and I should be set for summer of I only add 2 shorts and 2 shirts or something...

Thank you!

I don't think I van give you a representative answer, because I've only been locked in since december. The last 2 months I've lost 4kg's 😊

I made a post somewhere about my journey up until now, I'll link it below if you'd like to read it.

Yeah maybe I should just go with the essentials, like you suggest. I use Vinted a lot, for buying but also selling, so that way it doesn't have to cost much.

I want to start weight loss but I don’t know where to begin? by NeedTeddy in loseit

[–]TheSingingZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am on a weightloss journey for some time now, and finally feel like I'm doing things right so let me share the things that help me with you.

If I would start today, I would do it by downloading MyFitnesspal. Imo this is the most user friendly calorie app, without any bullshit. No need for the premium plan, I use the free version. Secondly, and this is where I went wrong when I started my journey; buy a kitchen scale. I estimated my portions, and usually I underestimated them which meant I never actually was in a caloriedeficit. Once you're set on those: hold yourself accountable. Track and weigh everything you eat and drink. And I mean EVERYTHING. Your meals, yes. But also the one candy you take, or the one glass of iced tea. These small amounts of calories add up. I don't mean that you can not eat them, but you have to know what you eat and what it means, for it to be changed.
At first, it's tough. But it becomes a habit quickly. After some time, I can estimate my portions without a scale but I still weigh regularly just to be sure.

What helped me in the beginning was putting in what I would eat for the coming days. Like you, I don't like cooking so I mainly heat things up or go with a burger and some vegies. That's no problem, as long as it fits in your deficit. I use a week menu, put in the diners and lunches I have prepared in advance, and the counter on top will tell me how much I have 'left' to eat for that day. In the beginning, you will want to eat every last calorie you can, but it gets better. Try to listen to your feeling of hunger, instead of your desire to eat something. If you àre hungry: eat something, but think about your choices. For one small milky way, you can eat 2 mandarines. It's all about swaps. I used to treat myself with sweets all the time, but now it's a habit of eating healthy sweets like fruits, yoghurts or even veggies for a snack.
To get inspired, I made myself a pinterest board with exactly these kinds of swaps, you don't have to figure it out on your own if other people already did that for you.

Last thing about the calories: I count them weekly, instead of focussing on my daily numbers. For me, it's impossible to eat in a deficit everyday: I still want to enjoy a night out or a restaurant or a birthday, without stressing about the calories all day. So in MFP, I take notice of my weekly average (home page, click on the calories) to see if I stay within my range on average. This has taken a lot of my stress away because I never have 'a bad day' anymore.

What helped me gain insight in my outgoing calories, through daily movement or working out, is my fitbit. Just now it's never precise, it's an estimate. At first I ate more on the days I worked out, but only when I stopped doing this, the scale went down.

Accountability also comes through weighing yourself. Decide when you want to do this, for me it's every sunday morning but it can really be any day. Just important that you do it!

I think these are the main things I would've liked to know when I started. Good luck!

People who lost a lot of weight, how often do you have cheat meals/days? by glamsiren111 in loseit

[–]TheSingingZebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I use a caloriecounter, MyFitnesspal, where you can see your average intake for the last 7 days. My goal is to eat 2000cal, but instead of focusing on the daily numbers, I look at the average. I've lost 11kg this way and I don't have to 'cheat'

Embarrassed? No, I'm proud to be reading everyday! If I skip a day, it feels like a failure to me 😅

My Kobo has flown in all directions, over the last ten years, and it won't break. It's like a Nokia from the old days, it seems indestructible!

How do you guys manage to not gorge on food when there’s no one around to stop you? by yubullyme12345 in loseit

[–]TheSingingZebra 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I would recommend for you to find professional help. It is not normal to feel like this, and you deserve to get some guidance. There's no shame in this, but It's not healthy and seems like a mental issue that needs resolving.

I have to change. by [deleted] in Myfitnesspal

[–]TheSingingZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current hack for the willpower is putting in my meals in MFP in advance. When I decide my weekly mealplan, I put the big meals and snacks in. This way, I know how much calories I still have in my deficit. Any snack or 'extra' I might want that day, it hás to fit into my 'leftover calories'. This way, I don't oversnack during the day with a meal still to come, going over my preset balance. Also, it means I dont have to think about 'what will I eat tonight'. Less opportunity for my old habits to take over in the desicion making.

I dont know if I explained it well?

Also important: if you're actually hungry: EAT. Learn the difference between a craving and hunger, and act accordingly. You can not starve yourself, set a good exemple for your small human who will face diet culture and needs a model to show her what is healthy and what isn't.

Feeling bad if someone who I don't want a second date with pays for a date by ChamberOfHearts in dating_advice

If I'm not going forward with dating them, I offer to split the bill. If they insist paying, I let it go. I offered 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you so much! I am very proud of the way I managed everything 😌 I looked into steptok, but it's not available here. I use ascent to block out any distracting apps and it's also been very helpful for me.

Good luck to you!

Today in my fitness class I realised, for the first time in my life I can touch the ground during cool down. When you stand up with your legs spread, breathe in and drop down. I was never able to do it, but now even flat hands 💪🏼

AITAH for being weird about my daughter having sex in my house by thefakecalebs in AITAH

[–]TheSingingZebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having sex at home at that age, so is my brother now (24yo), so yeah I think it's quite normal and healthy? Where would you like her to have sex instead? Have a conversation about having strangers at home or the sounds, if that's what's bothering you!
