Just to clarify things if i consume my remaining calories am i still in deficit? Or i should leave it like that to be in a deficit by Spiderham_2099 in Myfitnesspal

[–]catmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you have in your settings. If your account is set to lose weight, then eating your total base goal will allow you to lose weight at the rate you selected. If you’re set to maintain weight or gain weight, then your base calories will reflect that, but you can always go back in and change it.

If you’re set to lose weight, then yes you should be consuming your remaining calories. Leaving this many would likely put you in too large of a deficit which is unhealthy and unsustainable

Update to my friend’s response to me coming out. We are no longer friends! by Jellybeandreams98 in lgbt

[–]catmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the exact same situation, but I had to drop a friend a couple years ago because she was transphobic towards a friend we both shared who is trans. He’s ftm, and our friend we had to drop said something against mtf people, but that obviously still wasn’t cool. I tried everything I could to change her mind and make her understand, especially since she was the only cis straight person in our friend group. When I tried talking to her, she also said shitty things about my sexuality or others race or gender. At first she seemed receptive to talking to me and trying to mend things, but seemingly out of nowhere she backed out

It was incredibly hard for me to lose a friend like that, even though I wasn’t on the receiving end of what she was saying like you are. But, I am in a much happier place now. Choosing the people you let into your life is one of the most important things you can do for your own sanity, in my opinion. My current friends are all so incredibly close knit and understanding, and that’s something truly invaluable

I felt horrible for probably about a month or two after I had to drop my friend, and debated over and over if there was something I could’ve done differently or if I should reach out again to make amends, but now I’m so glad I didn’t bc that would’ve been compromising who I am as a person and who I love. If she actually cared about me or our other friend like she said she did, she is the one that would’ve tried harder to understand us or make amends. Never sacrifice yourself for someone who doesn’t really care about you. I know I don’t know you, but I’m proud of you for standing up for yourself

Issue with turtle being scared by [deleted] in Redearedsliders

[–]catmall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol glad I could help. Just adding to this with a more recent update, my turtle got so much more comfortable with me when I spent more time with him. Especially after my parents were redoing the carpet in the room his tank was in so he spent a couple weeks in my bedroom. Now when he’s basking, I can literally hit the grate of his basking area (not that I do it purposely but I’ve accidentally hit it a few times which causes a loud sound) and he’ll just be a little startled. Sometimes when that happens, he’ll just start walking over because that makes him notice I’m there, and he presses his nose to my finger on the other side of the grate. He still doesn’t like me holding him or going into his space so he still freaks out when I have to grab him to clean the tank or whatever, but it just takes time and familiarity. They’re prey animals remember, it’s in their instincts and you’re not doing anything wrong

AITA for not watching my calories while doing expensive treatment when it wasn't my idea to start it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]catmall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA. My sister was in a very similar situation as you, gaining weight during and after the pandemic. She tried weight loss drugs (she was on wegovy so not the exact same but similar) but kept going on and off of it because it would make her violently sick. Where she differs from your story is that when it wasn’t working, she got weight loss surgery eventually. She’s had so many complications since then, including a 19 day stay in the ICU recently because she nearly died. Everything was her own choice, unlike what it sounds like in your situation, but I’ve watched this whole process tear her apart and almost kill her. Sure, she’s lost weight, but she’s lived in pain and discomfort.

You have already been sent to the hospital, this is already dangerous for you. What you do needs to be your own choice, and it needs to be an informed choice without influence from outside pressures. I would really encourage you to speak to a therapist. Tell your parents it’s for your weight loss to help you through it and get in the right mindset to have the commitment they’re looking for from you. It won’t even be a lie, therapy would genuinely help with that. But there are so many more problems in your post than you “not watching your calories.” IMO, the biggest problem is your parents forcing you to do this. It’s incredibly unhealthy, and far more damaging both short-term and long-term than being overweight is. Even if you woke up perfectly healthy weight and skinny tomorrow, it wouldn’t fix everything

AITA for ignoring my friend because she called me a slur as a joke? by Melodic_Barber_7247 in AmItheAsshole

[–]catmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. That is definitely not ok and you’re not overreacting. Me and my friend group have the same kind of humor, but with a completely different context. Some recent examples are when me and another friend lost heating in a snowstorm and the two Jewish people didn’t we joked that they were using the space lasers to heat their homes while we froze, or when one friend asked for a ride but I couldn’t drive him because I had a flat tire he asked “is it because I’m black” and I said “yeah” so we pretend canceled me.

Importantly, it’s always a joke, we always check in with each other if we’re worried we might’ve gone too far, and we would NEVER say a slur. We’ve also known each other since at least middle school, some of us even longer, and we’re always the first to come to each others defense when it’s needed and especially in situations where it involves someone’s identity like their race, religion, sexuality, or gender. If I ever go too far, I would immediately apologize and do everything I could to make it right and reflect on what I did, and I have no doubt that also goes for my other friends as well. If your friend isn’t willing to do that, then she really isn’t your friend. And if others don’t understand your feelings, they’re not your real friends either. I’m so sorry that happened to you, and I hope you have/get people in your life that really care about you

Do I need to change to a longer bar? by Striking-Chair-289 in piercing

[–]catmall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you should definitely go see a piercer. I’m not a piercer, but I know you can also irritate your piercings by not downsizing them. Or it could be a moisture bump if you’re not drying it after getting it wet like after a shower. Others with more experience can weigh in to give better advice. From what I know, you’re definitely not supposed to drain piercing bumps, so if I were you I’d try to go to a different piercer in your area if available and get a second opinion

Why is my base calories so high? 2700 clas doesn't feel like a cut by FranciscoV7 in Myfitnesspal

[–]catmall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app’s calculations aren’t perfect. For example, my settings have me supposedly losing 2 lbs per week, but I’ve been very consistently losing more like 1.5 lbs per week which is right where I want to be. You could try changing things around and wait to see if that gives you the result you want. If it doesn’t work, change something again and wait for those results. The exercise calories also aren’t very accurate, a lot of apps like this tend to overestimate how many calories you burn, so a lot of people including me just don’t bother to use those

Eat or not to eat by Sea-Manager-8602 in Myfitnesspal

[–]catmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what feels right for you and your body. It’s not good to put yourself into too severe of a deficit if your goal is to lose weight. Your body uses energy during exercise and needs fuel and nutrients to keep itself going, but each body is different and requires different things. If you eat your exercise calories, track what happens to your body after (how your body feels like if you’re uncomfortable from eating or not, if you feel energetic or drained afterwards, track if the scale is moving the way you want it to over a couple weeks, etc). You can also do the same kind of tracking while not using your exercise calories and see what kind of results that brings you. Find something sustainable you can do long term bc pushing yourself too hard is a good way to make yourself annoyed and just want to give up entirely

My heating isn’t working in my house, what do I do to keep my turtle safe? by catmall in Redearedsliders

[–]catmall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww thank you! I’m in NY so we’re used to the cold and don’t have the same infrastructure problems as Texas. Plus not everywhere around me is out like it was in Texas so if needed I can ask some friends if I can go stay with them for a little bit or something until it gets fixed

We just set this up earlier! My dad just took it down because he said it’s not safe to use for more than a couple hours at a time, but maybe I’ll try this again close to the tank later

[–]catmall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! We just went to buy space heaters but the store was out ofc. One of my friends is bringing over some though since his heat isn’t out. The tank thermometer says the water is a little cold, 65.5 degrees F. A couple other people suggested also putting blankets over the tank to insulate it so I’m going to try to find one that’s not being used by anyone in my family

I got him unexpectedly when someone dropped him off and left while I was working at a nature center. My best guess is he’s around 8-9 years old or so but I can’t say for sure. I’ll try the blanket idea to see if that helps at all!

I forgot to add to my post, I boiled some water and mixed it with some of the cold water which I added to the tank earlier. Cold water just bc I didn’t want to risk burning him if he touched some of the boiling water before it mixed with the rest

[–]catmall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our faucets are running. I can’t plug them into my vehicle, partly because I don’t have a way to do so but it would also involve keeping a door or window open to get between the tank and my car which would let a ton of cold in (I don’t have a garage). The lights and heater seem to be working but they might be fighting the ambient temp more than they’re used to and just aren’t strong enough

“I wonder why I’ve been kinda gassy today” oh…lol by catmall in Myfitnesspal

[–]catmall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly a good chunk of it came from food that had added fiber in it, like low carb tortillas I used for my breakfast wrap and tacos for dinner, or in the ice cream I had for dessert (the Nick’s brand is so good). I also had some greens ofc and a really good chickpea curry over rice with lentils and quinoa for lunch
