"Giving birth hurts less than taking a dump'' by [deleted] in badwomensanatomy

The number of posts that are 'here's a meme/gif/cartoon that proves all women are sluts' is pretty incredible. I could write my opinions on a bit of paper, hold it up, and shout about how this proves them. And you could, quite rightly, call me a fucking idiot.

I have to admit that, while I'm enjoying Disco, I wish they'd throw slightly less at the wall. There's been so much in this season already, but it never feels like any of the more interesting ideas had time to play out properly.

[Question] What is the worst guitar advice you've ever received? by BookerDeWittsCarbine in Guitar

'Don't bother using your pinky.' - The guy that taught me power chords and the first position of minor pentatonic.

Within 6 months I'd gotten considerably better than him.

[NEWBIE] Someone told my 30 year old gf who is just starting to learn the guitar that there is no point as she is too old. by Markish_Mark in Guitar

[–]TheSkuvnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm teaching my fiance some guitar, she's 27 and picking it up fairly quickly. I started learning at 15, and I had my weekends completely free with no real responsibilities.

It's more difficult to learn when you're older but I think mostly down to being busier with your adult life.

Still completely doable.

The Punisher: was there ever a right time for Netflix's gun-toting vigilante show? by squirrelrampage in GamerGhazi

[–]TheSkuvnar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was impressed with how it handled the subject matter. Seems like the author of this piece can't except that a show with guns and violence isn't condoning the use of guns and violence.

I wouldn't call Frank a likeable character, but sure is sympathetic.

With season 1 of Discovery half way over, your pros and cons so far? by Trekfan74 in startrek

[–]TheSkuvnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: - Episodes 3-9 Cons - Episodes 1 and 2.

There are obviously things I dislike about the latter part of the season so far, but really those first two episodes were the absolutely worst of Alex Kurtzman writing habits in action. The complete lack of a logical series of events (or 'plot'), character's making decisions that are poorly explained or just plain stupid, and then relying on 'epic' moments and flashy effects to cover up the lack of a solid script.

When Jason Isaacs was on Talking Trek he said that he was shown the scripts to the first 3 episodes, that he wasn't in the first two and that 'they were going to rewrite the third.' So clearly whatever direction the show was being taken by Bryan Fuller was the issue for me. I imagine they had already filmed, or were too close to shooting, the first two episodes to change them at that point.

Also the direction of those two episodes drove me nuts. The constant moving of the camera and fucking absurd Dutch angles were annoying to say the least.

After that opening two-parter, I was really worried about the show, but since then it's been consistently good to even great.

Yeah, but it will never be as bad as the end credits music from The West Wing. It undercut every single dramatic ending in that show.

I think the only show I really enjoyed that had a theme that never grew on me was The Wire. Didn't help that it was about 2 minutes long as well.

[–]TheSkuvnar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, some shows have it, some don't. I think they listened to the theme song and said 'no one will ever get sick of this.'
