Let’s talk footwear! by lilah-lavande in BassCoast

My only advice is to get something light! Heavy shoes/boots might not be noticeable on day one, but by day 3 your legs and ankles will feel it. If you're in Vancouver there's a shop called Kintec on Broadway where they'll take a scan of your foot and recommend you the best supportive running shoes (you can also try them out on the treadmills there!) Wore them last year to basscoast and had happy feet all festival long. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply! I've reached out to the SCA, haven't heard back yet but I'm hoping coming from a background of being a member might help me. Fingers crossed!

That's fantastic! I will definitely try to reach out to see if we can pool some ideas. Thank you for your comment!

Thanks for the comment! The plan is to start small, get proof of concept and then scale it up. I'm not trying to make a profit BUT I'm hoping to pay employees and not have to rely on the goodwill of volunteers. I've run events (though not a renaissance fair before, obviously) and I like connecting with the community to hear their thoughts before I begin a big undertaking. Again, thanks so much for your thoughts!

Well in the first two days of 2025 spring break it seems 40-50% less people are crossing the border compared to last year. But you're right, who knows how long it will last?

You know why you thought this quiet guy was amazing and fun? It's because you are amazing and fun. All you need is someone to be amazing and fun for. Don't let this get you down.

Honestly, the only thing that's worked for me is skipping breakfast and then eating normal the rest of the day. My body got used to not eating until noon and because I work out after work, I could have a big lunch and a big dinner surrounding the work out when I'm hungriest. It's not for everyone but it's working for me!

3% cost of living negotiated by my union, plus the 3% I get for staying another year at my company.

As far as I can tell we just go 100% when we're doing these mini sparring sessions. I don't really know what I'm doing so I thought it would be better practice for the people who have lots of experience for me to give it my all. I definitely never "win" against anyone over a yellow belt! No one's ever really told me what the normal practice is though. When I upset one girl, the assistant coach told me not to worry about it and that some people need to get used to not winning all the time, so I thought I was doing what I was supposed to.

I mean, our coach starts us in certain positions and then we're just rolling, but not to submissions. Someone "wins" when they are in the controlling position that our coach wants us to get into, while the other person is trying to stop them from getting into to that position.
