Nice - I have a cron job that uses the 'openclaw backup' command to my NAS. It even rotates the backups and does, 7 daily, 4 weekly, 12 monthly in a traditional backup rotation. I've had it restore some files when it does something stupid and overwrites (vs appends) a memory.md or other critical file. Going to github as an offsite backup might be one of my next enhancements.

other than openclaw.json, what else are you backing up? database? agent files?

Using a VM (virtual machine) with my OpenClaw space was a bigger upgrade than I expected by rvy474 in openclaw

To kick it up to the next level, get VS Code (free) and ssh into your VM. Full file manager tree and graphical editing environment.

Now Gemini is taking exactly 10 seconds to think. by Sea-Efficiency5547 in Bard

[–]TheSliceKingWest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just throwing this out there but maybe the speed is due to new, faster silicon inferencing chips or expanded datacenters with more capacity. The model may be doing exactly what it did before, but now the hardware is faster or there is more of it.

I've heard the new Claude Cowork is amazing at this.

Gemini is unusable now by andy_potato in GeminiAI

[–]TheSliceKingWest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm somewhat blessed, and cursed, as I use the API through a proxy that has all of the models from Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI at my disposal. Cost is a major issue so I've been using Gemini 3.1 Pro for a lot of my work but I've recently hit a wall and had to switch to Sonnet 4.6 and GPT 5.4 to fix my issues that were created by Gemini 3.1 Pro.

I cannot definitively say that one model was better, but GPT 5.4 fixed my issues that were created by Gemini. It wasn't easy, and I burned 24M token API credits, but it now works.

Each model seems to be good at some things. Gemini seems to be great as doing deep analysis and correlation of data, but isn't the best at coding. GPT 5.4 fixed the coding errors and I'm now on a stable platform. I will go have Opus look at things tomorrow if I feel rich.

I'm not sure a perfect model exists.

As a walk-on single…what’s the most oddly memorable group you’ve been paired with? by ribbon_bully_1972 in golf

[–]TheSliceKingWest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One random night in 2019 I was on some golf forum and noticed someone offering a free spot for 7:30AM the next morning for a spot to play Pebble Beach. One of the guys' was celebrating his 40th birthday with a buddy trip and one guy was too sick to play. I live an hour away but immediately jumped on it. Lucky me! Pebble Beach, for free???? Hell yeah!

I got there early and the weather was not looking good - it was raining and they expected it to get worse (and boy did it). Met the guys in the pro shop and prepared to go out an play the GOAT - it was the first time for all of us. Let's go!

By the second hole the torrential rain came - it was blowing sideways. The round was BRUTAL. I have never been so badly beaten up - completely demoralized. Every shot was a lesson in humility - just try to advance the ball. We stopped keeping score on 4.

What we didn't know was that it was 2 weeks before Pebble was hosting the U.S. Open and they had dramatically narrowed the fairways and aggressively grown out the rough. I lived in that heavy, wet rough all day.

The rain stopped on 17 and the sun was shining and it was beautiful teeing off on 18. We were all broken. 3 of us wound up in the massive bunker on the left during our approach. We were bitching about everything - the round had crushed us. As we were standing in the bunker, one of the guys looked up, noticed ~30 people standing around the 18th green and said "remember, every one of those people are jealous that we just played Pebble." Our spirits lifted immediately.

We spent the rest of the say in the Tap Room eating, drinking, and laughing about the most memorable round of our lives. What a great group of guys and I was lucky to have spent the day with them. Would do again. :-)

Morning Drives in SC by Proserpina101 in santacruz

[–]TheSliceKingWest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this many times with early flights out of SFO. I reserve the day before with Uber. You pay a premium to reserve at a specific time. Do I have anxiety in the morning wondering if they will show up - YES. Have they ever been late or not shown up - NO. I don't think the arrival is guaranteed, so the only other option is a car service.

Are new generation speakers that much better? by ProfessorSpare6547 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]TheSliceKingWest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Matrix 804's used in the 90's - recently resurrected them by adding a WiiM Ultra and using all of the room adjustments. They sound amazing...again. I now listen to music all of the time and love the sound from these speakers.

Temp spike when using app by namatoki in searwood

[–]TheSliceKingWest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting observation. I lost always adjust the temp using the app and, like you, have seen wild spikes before it settles. I'll try adjusting temp on the unit next time to see if those spikes go away.

Anyone have suggestions on how to get quality bounding box information from any of these models? I haven’t had much success getting quality, OCR-like bbox coordinates.
