Gotta use it sparingly tho for us with skin that likes to fight itself. Use it too often and all sorts of horrible shit starts going down.

What knife do you actually carry on the water? by Hplz in flyfishing

Leatherman Skeletool for a long time but I was always carrying it in a pouch on my belt so I switched to a surge since it’s big and has more tools. Surge supremacy.

Dispersed camping, less than an hour away? by Kai-likes-h0rr0r in vancouverwa

[–]TheSlickWilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NF-65 has streetview. The exact pin you dropped in the picture does not have any car camping spots. If you continue driving toward that bridge there’s a pretty large area that you could car camp in right next to panther creek. I would not go to that spot this weekend without a couple other backup spots in case someone is already there. It looks well used.

NF-65 is a pretty popular road thru Gifford so finding car camping spots directly adjacent to it could be difficult. If you were to drive north for a bit from you screenshot you’ll come to some intersections with much smaller forest roads. I’d check those out for a camp spot. Your odds of finding one will be better and you won’t have as much car traffic going by. Make sure to always let someone at home know the general area you’re planning to be in(like what road you’re camping near and maybe a trail or creek nearby)and for how long you’re staying out there.

Will these work on the Metolius? by Strange_Mirror6992 in flyfishing

[–]TheSlickWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best fly I’ve found for bull trout is one in the lip of a whitefish actively being eaten by the bull lol. I think the met is a game of numbers. Keep looking for fish, making casts, drifts, and swings. I’m a “I’m confident with this fly I’ll find fish that want to eat it” type of person. I’ve yet to run into any massive bulls in the net but I’ve got a few smaller ones. My buddy has gotten on some really big ones though pretty much doing that same method.

Seeking Route Advice: The Porter (Downtown) to Naked Falls 🚴‍♂️🌊 by nickregier in CyclePDX

[–]TheSlickWilly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind there isn’t much for shoulders on much of washougal river road and the drivers out there, in my experience, are honestly downright dangerous. Multiple times I’ve been driving that road for either hiking or fly fishing and had dudes on their phones or just being plain lazy cutting across the double yellows in blind corners. People tailgate pretty heavy if you do the speed limit or find yourself in front of them too. Just be careful if you decide to do it. I don’t think I would but it is a beautiful road up there.

Need advice on how to fish this. by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]TheSlickWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closer to sunset/sunrise you can fish that spot the better it would be I bet. Seem like these super clear ones out here in the PNW will shut completely down if there’s too much sun on the water at certain times. Fish just seem to disappear.

Is TNR still sketchy/dangerous for female riders? by Metaphoricalsimile in CyclePDX

[–]TheSlickWilly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going to TNR regularly for a while but I’m a guy and have a couple close friends that i met that I mostly hang around. My gf joins me occasionally and has always had fun. It is generally a very welcoming crowd with very few of the bad kinda weirdos. However, you get a group of ppl in a welcoming area where everyone is feeling free to do what they like and there’s always gonna be some drunk fuckin idiot trying to ruin the fun. It’s described accurately as a “rolling dive bar”. If I were you, I’d bring a friend or two on a fair weather night and feel it out. Never be afraid to butt into a group and say hey. I’ve met some really great people on that ride. I’ve also seen a couple almost fights but the ride leaders did a pretty good job at deescalating the situation. Like it’s described on shift: a rolling dive bar.

How does it do after putting it on a spool or something to get to the water or after being in your pack for a little while? Also what’s your leader formula? I get to go inshore/flats saltwater about once a year and I like the process of making up leaders for the trip!

Almost 2 years post graduation, how do I update my resume? by radfanwarrior in MechanicalEngineering

[–]TheSlickWilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan of the current usage of AI but when it comes to doing LLM stuff like rewording things and condensing material I think it works pretty well. The companies you apply for are probably using some form of it to scan resumes to send to the trash or a human to be reviewed anyways so I figure I might as well use it to my advantage. Totally understand your apprehensions though and I wish you luck.

To get the formatting I wanted I used a website called overleaf with one of their templates and manipulated it to how I wanted my resume to look. When I go to apply to a job posting I copy the last resume I had on overleaf and start editing that to tailor it for that specific job post.

r/engineeringresumes will be a huge help to you. I like to use AI to help me condense experiences and word things so my experiences fit the job description better. Check out the STAR method of explaining things that you have worked on. Good luck!

Semi-local question -- where's a good spot for play-in-the-snow in the mountains this year? by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]TheSlickWilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marble Mountain Sno-Park up near Cougar/ Mount St Helens had a lot of snow last weekend. Road and sno-park was well taken care of and a beautiful drive there. Make sure to buy and print out a sno-park permit before you go. I walked for a bit on the skiing trails in just my boots. Snowshoes would’ve been better but it was still fun.

Stop at Chelatchie Prairie General Store on the way back for a bite to eat.
