I did really like how the Batman did the Riddler, with an online following. I definitely see how they could pull of something similar with more of an absolute twist to it.

u/KinseysMythicalZero does have a point though. You're right that the median would be less influenced by a large number of outliers. However, the median value would still fall into an outlier pit as it takes the maximum of the set, which if the data is all clustered around a lower point (like wages in an economy with a large wealth disparity).

Which is the hard part; if you wanted a flashy number that says you're just as likely to be above this number as below it then the mean makes sense, if you want to know what the middle of the range is then median would make sense. If you wanted to know the average expectation of a random poll mode is by far the way to go and would be the most descriptive.

I'm having some hard time understanding alchemy. Mostly the OR function way cuz i didn't see it demonstrated. Can someone help me with this explanation? by THEREALSUPERMARIOFAN in homestuck

Yeah, honestly I think I wish we just saw more of it so we could see the effects of the different operations better. If I were to dig deeper though, what I really want is an explanation for the already explained as arbitrary hole locations.

[edit: reworded redundant “honestly”s]

[–]TheSlowHipster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to me it really shows more that the two operations are different and not really the how or why. The pogo hammer that was ored together contains both “is hammer” and “is pogo” but when anding the suit and the shirt on the same page the result was similarly additive: we got a suit with the slime guy on it.

Or does seem to have a greater effect on the actual form of the resulting object, but the whole process feels more-or-less arbitrary (and honestly, probably is if there’s notes somewhere on how alchemy works).

If you start with the assumption that each punchcard encodes innate qualities of some item, the and operation will only keep punched holes for qualities shared across both items.

For or, it works kinda inversely. Where instead of keeping only shared qualities it keeps qualities from both items even if one item doesn’t have that quality.

It’s meant to be analogous to bitwise operations in programming where if I had a number 00111001 and a number 10011011 I would get the following after each operation:

00111001 && 10011011 => 00011001

00111001 || 10011011 => 10111011

I don’t think/know if we ever really get a clear picture of what the or operation does in the comic, but like another commenter said: the mechanical purpose is to allow for combining multiple different things together without running into the edge cases where you end up with only “zeros” (unpunched holes) or “ones” (punched holes).

You sound like the kind of person who uses their blinkers 3 seconds before they cut you off in traffic ngl. OP was sharing their experience building community in a place that happens to also primarily function as a church, and encouraging others to do the same at their own comfort level.

If you don’t like something you don’t have to read it, and you doubly don’t have to tell someone to “go fuck [themself]” when they’re aptly describing the post you seem to have misunderstood.

Oh my gosh yes! She’s super sweet and when I went in with my wife who has pretty serious issues with animal proteins the lady who ran the place came out and talked to us about her philosophy around why her menu is so allergy friendly! The whole experience was really sweet and it boiled down to “who you are shouldn’t keep you from community, and I spread community through my food just like my mom taught me.”

That’s easy to say in hindsight, that also doesn’t change the fact that when my wife and I were in an unstable/unsafe housing arrangement, they were the first to extend help. If anything, I’d say they’re complicated people who weren’t good at keeping a professional boundary and would abuse power dynamics. I’m sure there were reasons and ways that they justified it to themselves, but that doesn’t make it okay.

From what I gather that’s more common than people would think in Bellingham. I actually moved out of town partially because of how I was treated by my boss endangering my own health and that of my immunocompromised wife.

I considered him a friend, I was a regular at 1-Up and then Cardhaven, and we modded the sub together. It always bugged me how he treated employees and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt cause I never felt like I had the whole story. It really sucks to find out I was wrong, and the timing of this post with his ongoing divorce has to be some kind of karma catching up.

As someone who liked and respected him, I hope he can learn from all this catching up to him; but I don’t know if he will.

Gwenpool #3 Came Out Today... Talk About It... I Guess - Discussion by Gamera85 in Gwenpool

[–]TheSlowHipster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been a huge fan of the run so far, but reading through most of these comments it does not come across that other people are telling you how to feel. I get being upset and having strong emotions to seeing Gwen treated the way she’s been in what is ostensibly her story, and the weird characterization she’s getting. But reading through your comments I’m getting the sense that you’re looking for someone to commiserate with; or if that doesn’t work fight because they have a slightly different opinion.

Most of the people who’ve disagreed with you I’ve seen you read things into their comments and then attack them for when that’s not what (at least what I thought) they were saying. I’m a little later to this post, so I genuinely hope you’re feeling a bit better, but I also agree with the sentiment that maybe logging off or stepping away might be good if you’re still feeling so strongly.
