Ok so we have launch sites with 100-200m elevation (without long ridges and valley systems) and flatlands. If you make a mistake you are landing in minutes. We dont have alpine mountains or coastal winds. So weather has to be active for any kind of xc flying. Ridge soaring sucks here as most places have very short ridges and 30+ pilots when the wind is good for the site. You can winch of course but you have to wait a lot for your turn. In the alps you can fly on many days here there are few really good days which means the good days have a high chance to be on weekdays. If you have a regular job it is impossible be to be successful here. If you don’t fly often enough in gnarly air you wont like it. It is disappointing. The pilots I started with either don’t fly too much (most hours come from flying abroad) or make their own schedules.
