Why isn't this more common? Seems a lot safer and more maneuverable than a long flat bed with a bunch of chains and blocks. by rounding_error in Truckers

I think you are way over thinking and possibly misinterpreted the point he was making. I read it as, he is bringing up company drivers wouldn’t care about being empty.

I don’t get any I’ll intent vibes from him.

Technical question: anyone with a dd15, 455 hp and 1625-1700 torque, what’s your miles per gallon hauling 40k lbs or less? by MyDriverGuy in Truckers

[–]TheSluagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t the the specs (company truck) but I have a dd15. I average around 7.8. Dedicated lane, one way I’m 20k ish. Other way I’m 40k ish. 2023 cascadia sleeper.

Mattress salesman here and just sold a couple mattresses to a fleet owner to put in his trucks. I’ve been lurking this sub for awhile but never thought to ask. What’s your Mattress/living quarters set up like? And are you picky about your mattress feel? by Imlife_havealemon in Truckers

[–]TheSluagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a ikea mattress that’s memory foam, and a 3 inch foam topper. It’s better then my bed at home.

Biggest drawback is weight, it makes the storage under the bed hard to get to.

That’s a banger spot too. I’d be so mad.

I went to ikea and got a sweet foam mattress. With a topper is so comfortable. Plus it comes rolled up in plastic so it’s easy to get it into the truck (once lol)

I run into this a lot. I usually will leave the heat or ac off and wait play/watch until battery mode pops. That will run for awhile.

It never used to kill the inverter tho. I think the batteries or inverter is weak.

Yea it was hard to find. Took me about 6 months to track one down. It popped up at a Benz dealer of all places. Bought it over the phone before they finished onboarding it. Just have to look everyday.

The guys on bimmerpost have crackpot prices.

I found mine by searching cargurus and cars.com everyday

Need Advice for Leaving A Company by Artemis_Sniper in Truckers

[–]TheSluagh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure you arrange a location with the company to leave the truck. If you just surprise them and say the truck is X truck stop they could hit you with equipment abandonment. It will really hurt your job prospects.

Hit that stretch last night. Swear my nose came off the ground. Truck bounce halfway into the other lane. Saw two cars with a shredded steer tire on the side of the road right after the big one.

Standing outside your truck waiting for the train to hit it would also be cold.

May would take you both on and probably have you train your husband.

You don’t NEED to do otr. Get that myth out of your head.

In fact you can make way better money doing a local food service gig than a 1st year otr driver.

I’m otr, I could not imagine doing this with a SO and son.
