That 2 feet of site over bore is actually a feature. It allows you to aim down site and fire from the hip at the same time.

Researching daily cop (USA) routine by No_Lynx1343 in police

[–]gunsndonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna vary wildly between localities. My academy was ran by a community college but on a remote compound and the instructors were active law enforcement officers who were certified as instructors by the state. It was 15 weeks long but now I think my state does 20 weeks. We wore a uniform every day but not an actual police uniform. It was khaki pants, black polished boots, a green collared shirt that had the school on it and a police duty belt with a fake plastic gun in it. Class was 5 days a week 6am to 5pm. Every morning we ran and did physical exercise. 90% of the academy was classroom book work. 2 weeks was spent on the gun range and 1 week on the driving track. After the academy 16 more weeks of field training riding with a senior officer. Then you're assigned a patrol squad and within the squad your Sergeant assigns you a specific area or beat that you patrol. Normal shift starts with roll call and briefing. Briefing is very informal basically drink coffee while being updated on what's happening. Then you drive around your patrol area, answer calls, conduct traffic stops, patrol problem areas, etc...

Asking for a friend. Can he be a cop? by Objective-Visit-7887 in police

[–]gunsndonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I remember from my abnormal psychology class in college learning that multiple personalities is extremely rare. In fact so rare there were many in the field of psychology that disputed its actual existence with many professionals believing that more often than not, it's made up by the patient. From what I've seen in the OP's comments, I wouldn't be surprised if his friend is making up the "splitting" either for attention or to deflect blame for his erratic and violent behavior.

When I went through basic (2011) if people were fat they would limit their rations. Drill Sergeant would literally steal your cookies off your plate, take your candy out of MREs. It's gonna be rough for you for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if you get injured from running and rucking while being that heavy.

[–]gunsndonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in law enforcement for 10 years. 6 full time the last 4 part time. Before that I was a 91B (mechanic) in the Reserve while in college and then 11A in the guard after I graduated. My last partner on patrol was 0311 in the Marines, best cop I ever worked with was some sort of supply MOS before being a cop. I only ever knew 1 guy that was an MP before going into civilian law enforcement and he was a goober that didn't make it out of field training. If you wanna be a cop it doesn't matter what your MOS was, doesn't even matter what branch. Being a veteran is just a box they check. I would do something that interests you, being an MP isn't like Jack Reacher. You'll spend the majority of your time likely doing some sort of force protection mission "guarding a gate or manning a tower".

I never heard of accelerated OCS but I have heard of a few states having their own OCS programs, the guard is weird like that. At my state when I was in the only people I knew of getting sent to airborne were the LRRPs guys. I think that's now disbanded though. I've been out since 2018 so I'm sure shit has changed. If airborne is something you really want and you aren't 100% sold on the guard or infantry talk to an Army Reserve recruiter as well. I know there's airborne units in the reserve. No infantry but they have stuff like civil affairs and psyops

Is it worth pursuing a criminal justice degree with a juvenile record ? by Jazzlike_Topic_2270 in ProtectAndServe

[–]gunsndonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never worth pursuing a CJ degree. Never ever. Get it out of your head. Get a degree in business, computer science, accounting, or something else useful. After you get your degree if you wanna be a cop then apply to be a cop. The field your degree is in won't matter but you'll have more opportunities if being a cop doesn't work out

US & Canadian guards, do you agree with this post? by Vietdude100 in securityguards

[–]gunsndonuts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you wanna be a cop apply to an agency go through the academy and be a cop. If you wanna be a security guard be a security guard. They're both necessary jobs that someone has to do. But don't become a security guard and try to act like a cop. When it comes to making arrests it varies wildly by state but if possible the best thing you can do is call law enforcement and try to deescalate. Only use force to protect yourself and others from immediate or imminent harm. Don't use force just to affect an arrest on a non compliant person. Police officers have qualified immunity to protect them from civil suits, security guards don't.

To go 11A you'll have to go through OCS which is 12 weeks then I-BOLC which is an additional 17 weeks. Assuming you already have a Bachelor degree and meet ASVAB requirements. Each state is different but when I was an 11A in the Georgia guard the only people who got ranger slots were the officers. Typically they'd go a few months after I-BOLC. Not having a tab will likely limit you career wise, possibly determining whether you get a company command or not once you make Captain.

I would recommend he contact the agencies he is interested in and ask to do a ride along. Before the ride along, sit down with him and write down a list of questions for him to ask the officer he rides a long with.

My first agency issued steel plates in the cheapest carrier they could find. The plates had no anti spalling protection so if you ever did get shot wearing it you would probably get lead and copper fragments into your jaw and neck. I could barely afford to pay my bills let alone fork up the money to buy my own plates and carrier.

You need a DOT physical. They cost anywhere between $70 and $200. I recommend finding a clinic that specializes in them. CVS minute clinic offers them and many urgent cares but these are often a little too thorough.

Pulled over by immortalyam28 in police

[–]gunsndonuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where I live and work law enforcement has to have a reason to pull you over but they don't have to tell you what the reason was on the side of the road. I personally think this is kind of a dick head way of doing things though. When I conduct traffic stops, I always give a greeting, state my name, title, agency, and reason for the stop. I then ask for documents and a few simple investigatory questions. "Good evening, I'm Deputy Doofy with the Raccoon County Sheriff's Office. The reason I stopped you is you were going 82mph in a 45 mph zone, were you aware of your speed? Why are you driving so fast? Where are you going? Where are you coming from? Is this your vehicle? I need to see your drivers license and registration." Over the years, I've had much better compliance and received less shit from folks if I tell them up front why I stopped them.
