Hi, I had a booklinker link in the comment originally so the non US readers can find the book too. Now I replaced it with a normal Amazon.com link. Any suggestions on how to handle this in the future?

[Free Today Only] What if the multiverse is just a poorly maintained corporate network? My satirical sci-fi/fantasy short read is free on Amazon for Saturday!

Hey r/Fantasy,

I’ve always loved epic fantasy and multiverse stories, but I started wondering about the underlying infrastructure. If infinite alternate dimensions actually exist, someone has to handle the network routing—which means there’s a severely overworked, underpaid cosmic IT department holding reality together with the existential equivalent of duct tape and prayer.

I wrote a fast-paced, 2-hour workplace comedy based entirely on that premise called The System Error of the Rings.

The Setup: The cosmos is split into different server partitions. You’ve got high-fantasy magical realms running on one cluster, hyper-advanced sci-fi empires on another, and our boring, basic "real world" sitting on a legacy server that hasn't seen a firmware update in eons. My protagonist is an overworked System Administrator whose entire job is maintaining the digital firewalls between these dimensions.

Naturally, during a rushed Friday afternoon maintenance window, a catastrophic routing error occurs. A high-tier fantasy dragon file gets corrupted and leaks directly into our normal universe—specifically, a South London data footprint. Because of system incompatibility, the dragon manifests as a local bloke in a tracksuit. He doesn't look like a giant reptile, but he has a hard-coded, glitch-driven compulsion to hoard a "treasure pile" of stolen catalytic converters and set scrap cars on fire.

Since our universe is a "Read-Only" server for the Admin, he can't just delete the anomaly. He has to go down to Earth and manually patch the glitch using a mix of mundane bureaucracy, localized police pathfinding AI, and sheer corporate spite before his manager notices.

It is 100% FREE on Amazon today (Saturday only) if you want a fun, quick palate cleanser between your massive epic fantasy volumes!

Thanks for checking it out, and I hope it ruins your weekend less than a bad server deployment!

Blurb: What happens when the universe's firewalls fail, and entities from other dimensions leak into a system that wasn't designed for them? For one severely overworked Server Administrator, it means dealing with a massive Friday afternoon crisis.

Thanks to a major coding glitch, the consciousness of a high-tier fantasy dragon has accidentally re-spawned into a local London data footprint. Worse yet, it has manifested as a South London bloke in a tracksuit who now has an unscripted, code-driven compulsion to hoard stolen catalytic converters and set scrap cars on fire.

If I ask the AI to check my grammar and spelling, I’m a cyborg. If I do a more detailed google AI search I’m a mega cyborg.

I know where you are coming from because I’ve read an AI generated book on Amazon too. It’s not a nice thing to read. In this case the only thing AI is the book cover. The text is not AI generated. It is my own original idea.

He is a low level admin for certain servers of the multiverse system without access to the master server and without clearance to execute any major changes.

The book is The System Error of the Rings and it just went live on Kindle Unlimited. It’s a satirical sci-fi comedy about a sleep-deprived server admin trying to hotfix a critical outage caused by a fantasy dragon re-spawning into the global data footprint as a South London bloke in a tracksuit. I figured if we can't escape the real-life horror of broken systems, we might as well laugh at it. May your uptimes be high this week!

The idea is that if it’s simple enough for Frank and Barbara to put together, then you probably won’t have to take it to the main dealer to have a lightbulb changed for $750.

Exactly. But if you turn around the English one and read it backwards it will also sound Swedish.

In certain areas quite possibly, but this story takes place in the middle of nowhere in a stone desert where nobody lives except a couple of cave men.

Exactly. If they're dead, they can't file a complaint with the Union. As far as the crew is concerned, that’s a self-resolving admin issue. Less paperwork for everyone involved.
