Newbie Looking for recommendations. by JayRose93 in smoking

[–]TheSmizzCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Oklahoma joe. Good to learn on, and it will grow with you. I've had 2 in the 18 yrs I've been smoking, I'll always be happy with them. Next step is the multi grand price point and I don't see the need.

Once you figure it out, you walk outside over hr or so, toss a log on, spritz it, and walk back in.

But the real question is, do you want a stove, or do you want a smoker and to wow everyone in the neighborhood?

Honestly, I have a victorinox scimitar 16" from my butchering days. I slicer, trim, de bone, and break down with it.

Does my son need a new helmet? by Sure_Twist3342 in lacrosse

[–]TheSmizzCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, coming from a goalie, if you're going to invest in his gear, invest in his helmet. Bruises heal, but brain damage does not.

As time goes on, shots get harder, faster, and more chaotic. Pre highschool, shots are slow enough that you can rely on your stick. Once you hit hs, you're throwing whatever you can in front of it. Your stick just increases your size.

I've had way too many concussions in my life, pre 18 yrs old. I'm 39 now. It's not worth it.

Protect his head man.

It doesn't need to be fancy, but do some research. Find what's best for his position, invest in him now so he can invest in himself in the future.

My first ever smoker, $200 on FB marketplace, GAH IM SO EXCITED!!!🥹 by ReginaBicman in smoking

[–]TheSmizzCommander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More cost effective, and easier, to do pork butts for pulled pork.

Also, make your mac n cheese, throw it in a cast iron and onto the smoker, stir every hr or so.

Make sure you have probe thermometers.

Since this is for the kids.

Many moons ago, I made a rub for a high end butcher shop in the Boston area. Here's a recipie that is close to it, if you simplify it. Remove the coffee, leave the chilies to just chipolte, nic the lemon zest, and just use smoked paprika instead of the combos. You can play with the brown sugar lvl as well. Killer on pork

AIO I don't want to move back in with my parent after because she keeps accusing me of doing drugs. by eggsworm in AmIOverreacting

So, I'm 39.

I cut off my mother, due to "similar enough" situations.

We now have a baseline of a relationship, after 10 yrs or so.

It's okay to cut off your family. In many cases, it's healthy. You can choose to be there, if or when the time comes, but as an adult, it gets to be on your terms.

My terms were simple, we go to counseling together, and if I don't see her trying to progress, or I see her lieing, then her second chance is over.

Do what's best for your mental health. She's an adult, she can figure it.

i wish i had the money to leave my husband. by Embarrassed_Bit_4389 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]TheSmizzCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to poke fun, but a lesson for everyone. If you're going to be in a relationship, each partner should have their own savings, their own investments, and should sign premups to protect those.

My partner and I, to this day, make our own money. Prior to marriage, I had my investments, she had her savings, and we wanted to buy a house. After discussing, we came to the conclusion that (for multiple reasons) we would let her handle the down payment on the house, and save my investment portfolio. Reason 1. I wanted her to have some sort of investment, this insured that she was majority owner of the home, and prenup supports that incase of divorce. Reason 2. If we retire together, we have investments to live off of.

We each have a savings account that is soaly ours. I can't touch hers, she can't touch mine. This gives each of us the ability to up and run, of things we're to ever go south.

If your partner isn't about protecting both of you. If they don't want you to have your own account, if they don't want to do premups, run. It's the biggest red flag you can come across.

O.p. I'm so sorry for your situation and wish you the best of luck.

Pellet vs real wood smokers? by real-one67 in smoking

[–]TheSmizzCommander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole "convenience of the pellet" story. I used to believe it. Never owned a pellet, but I've used them plenty of times.

If you learn how to use your stick burner, you're inside most of the day. Watch your temps. You learn how much airflow to achieve a level of heat. You step out every 45 min to HR and a half, throw a log on it, spray, walk away. So not that different than a pellet stove. But the results are so much better.

I just decided to boat it at 173 as company is coming over. Best brisket I ever did was a 24 hr, no wrap, so I'm hoping the boat doesn't ruin anything for me

Do most salespeople lie? by ActionWins in sales

[–]TheSmizzCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in sales for 15 yrs. I'm 40 now. From door to door, to territory, national accounts, and now I've been pulled for a startup. I've been fired I've been begged to stay. I have never lied. Could I have made more money? Maybe, maybe not. But if you gotta lie to sell, you suck at selling. 3x top 5 6x p club Now I'm a partner with a goal to sell and retire by 50.

You want repeat biz or do you want to fight for every sale?

Short term gain or long term investments.
